FVE NEWS
April 2023
DEAR FRONTIER VALLEY FAMILIES,
We have many fun activities planned for the month of April! Our school district will be hosting the annual Apple Awards ceremony on Saturday, April 1st at the Legacy Campus. We are thrilled to honor two staff members during this award ceremony. Mrs. Destiny Thrasher, first grade teacher will be recognized as our certified representative, and Mrs. Elizabeth Van Otten, school counselor will be recognized as our support staff representative. Congratulations to Destiny and Elizabeth!
We are hoping that you will also be able to join us for our annual carnival and auction sponsored by our FVEA/PTO on April 15th from 10:00-2:00. This is a wonderful community event that includes carnival games, a cake walk, face painting, and of course our silent auction. This event is one of the main fundraisers that FVEA sponsors. Funds collected from this event will directly support our wonderful school. Please click HERE for more information regarding the carnival, how to purchase tickets, and FAQs. It is a great month to be a buffalo! We hope to see you at the carnival.
As always, the safety of our little buffaloes is a top priority. We are kindly asking our community to be mindful of U-turns, speed, and parking near crosswalks in our school zone. Please assist us with keeping all of the members of our HERD safe at arrival and dismissal. Thanks in advance for your help!
Cheerfully,
Kiersten

COUNSELOR'S CORNER
As our students begin to look towards the end of the year, helping them cultivate a growth mindset to finish out the year on a high note is so important. Author Carol Dweck offers three great tips for parents and caregivers on how we can motivate students at the end of the year:
1. Focus on progress: Emphasize and help your child see just how much they’ve learned so far this year.
2. Use that progress to motivate new learning: Help your child use the motivation that comes from seeing their progress thus far to push through and learn the final concepts of the year.
3. Connect your child’s learning to their own life: Talk with your child about how they can use what they have learned in school in their day-to-day life. (Example: math concepts prove useful in bake sales and lemonade stands!)
Read Dweck’s full article on “Mindsets and the End-of-Year Slump” here. And as always, please don’t hesitate to contact me at evanotten@dcsdk12.org if you or your student needs some additional support.
Collection supporting Andie’s 5th birthday - Students and staff can donate items to support the Dumb Friends League. Items they request for donation include: canned tuna or chicken, canned cat food, disinfecting wipes, paper towels, puppy pads, new towels, and blankets. For instructions on how to make homemade cat carrier blankets, click here. Please bring donations to Mrs. Van Otten by April 7th!
