SCHOOL VALUE THIS TERM: 'TO BE INCLUSIVE'
These are for our Vogeltown learners to be:
Inclusive (Whakaru), Respectful (Whakaute), Original (Tipu), Courageous (Kaha) and Kind (Atawhai).
These values were chosen by the staff, learners and community of Vogeltown School in 2019.
This term we are focusing on being 'Kind'.
To be 'inclusive' and welcoming to all our new Vogeltown learners is the 'Vogeltown Way'. We show 'inclusiveness' as part of our school vision of Manaaki Tangata - caring for the people.
Being a 'Vogeltowner' is being a good citizen of our community - someone who is inclusive, respectful, original, courageous and kind.
SCHOOL GOAL: 'TO BE INCLUSIVE'
WHAT: WELCOME BACK TO 2022 – To treat everyone the same, our VS family! Be INCLUSIVE!
We are a welcoming school and we want all learners and whanau to feel safe and happy here
Being an ‘inclusive’ learner you show the school vision of ‘Caring of the people’ - Manāki tangata
Vogeltown is one big ‘whanau’ and we welcome & involve all people to our family – being ‘inclusive’
By being a ‘Vogeltowner’ you show ‘inclusiveness’ by involving everyone - regardless of creed, race or gender.
By involving anyone in your group - whether it be a game, a class task, sitting together at lunch
By supporting other people and accepting everyone has differences - being collaborative
By being a positive Vogeltown citizen - keeping a positive attitude when working with others
SIGNS OF SUCCESS:
You can work collaboratively and positively with other people
You are welcoming and accept people into your game, group or task
You can support others - making sure everyone feels included in your group, class and school
You are a ‘Vogeltowner’ showing inclusiveness and Manāki tangata
You have respect for the feelings and well being of others
TE REO FOCUS FOR THE WEEK
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
This week we have made great use of the weather and got outside as much as possible. We have even had the pool open this week - the latest we have kept it open in my time! The pool will now close for the season, but what a lot of use the pool got! Thanks to Mr Mac for keeping the pool in Meke condition over the term!
Next week we look forward to our Learning Conferences. For many, this will be the first time we have made a connection. Please see below the information around making an appointment and coming to these very important meetings.
At the Learning Conferences, the teachers will go over your child's 'Progress Report'. This is the progress made over this term and is an 'overall teacher judgment' for where they are currently and what goals we have for your child for next term. We will also be providing feedback on your child's progress against the school IROCK values.
As part of Learning Conferences, we also ask for community feedback. This is in the form of a 'Satisfaction Survey'. We will have paper copies on the night, however for those doing them via zoom (or more digital than myself) then you can fill this out on SurveyMonkey - see the link below or scan the QR code.
Have a great weekend whanau, and remember HE WAKA EKE NOA - WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER
Aroha nui, Mr O
COVID-19 UPDATE AT VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - WEEK 8
This week has been a slightly better week than last week. Our attendance has improved slightly, but still sitting at about 76% - this is still down by 10% on previous weeks. We have been combining some classes together this week as numbers in each class reduced due to having Covid or having to isolate.
A reminder of changes to our school safety plans:
* Scanning in using the COVID QR code is no longer needed (but visitors still need to sign in at the office in the usual manner)
* Masks still required in class for Years 4 and above
* Monitor your child’s health very carefully, and keep them home if they show any symptoms
Isolate for 7 days if there is a COVID case in your household
* We will continue with staggered break times at the senior side to reduce playground congestion and keep our two school sites separate.
* Rooms 6 and 1 pickup times to remain at 2.45pm, as well as the Huatoki team (Middles).
For more detailed information, please refer to:
We are still expecting more and more cases to crop up at Vogeltown and will continue to communicate with our families. Thanks to the families who are letting us know if they need to isolate or if they are keeping their child home. Please can we ask that you let the school office know as well as the classroom teacher - either by email, Skool Loop, text or call. Our school mobile number is 021 753 680.
LEARNING CONFERENCES - NEXT WEEK
We feel we can do these conferences safely and we ask that all parents/caregivers who come to these conferences in person wear a mask and sign in, then we can go ahead with these very important meetings.
We always aim to get 100% attendance to these conferences, however we realise 2022 is not a normal year again so we have a couple of options to help us get 100%.
If you are isolating, then please let your child's teacher know and we will organise a zoom for your conference. If you are struggling with sickness in the home, then we will organise the conferences for the start of Term 2 - again, please let your child's teacher know.
If you do not feel comfortable coming in, then we are offering the opportunity to do the conferences via Zoom. When you book the conference there is a question where it will ask if you are happy to do these conferences 'mask to mask' or via zoom, please let us know. If you do choose the 'zoom' option, then we will still do the conference at the time chosen, just digitally. PLEASE NOTE: All of Mrs Irving's (Rm 9) and Mr Bishop's (Rm 10) conferences will be via zoom.
The conferences are held over two nights - the 6th and 7th of April. To get all the conferences completed, we will be closing the school at 2pm on both of these days. In previous years we have had a 'Teacher Only Day' to get all the conferences completed, but we feel doing it from 2:00pm until 7.30pm suited our community better.
To book, please use our free school app - 'Skool Loop'. If you have not used it before, then select 'Taranaki', then select 'Vogeltown School' and you will see a selection of boxes - just tap on the 'interview' box. You will then need to select your child's teacher (the room is written beside their name) and then a day, time and whether you want to do it at school or via zoom.
Thanks for your support of these very important conferences.

MR O'S FRIENDLY REMINDERS
1) Please remember to contact the school office if your child is absent. You can do this via Skool Loop, text 021 753 680 or ph 06 753 6843. Please do not use SeeSaw for student absences - these must come through the office.
2) Please be courteous before and after school with parking around the school sites. We have lots of kids and not enough parks, so please allow time to get to school and be patient around the streets.
3) If anyone in your immediate family is a 'close contact' of Omicron, please let Jeremy know asap on 021753680
