Reopening Schools Update

July 2020

July 13th, 2020 Regular School Board Meeting

We continue to plan and work toward the September 1 Reopening of Schools. We have many questions of our own, as well as those you are presenting and will continue to work diligently toward solutions that allow us to offer meaningful and engaging learning opportunities in an online, blended or traditional classroom learning environment.

Summer School Session II began on Monday and it was truly wonderful to see smiling and happy students and staff learning in our classrooms with new safety protocols and rules in place. We will continue to review safety procedures throughout the upcoming three weeks and as decisions are being made for the upcoming school year.

Updates since our last communication include:

In addition, families wishing to learn more about an online-only option for students 4K-12 are encouraged to complete this form.

The school board held their regular school board meeting on Monday, July 13 and in addition to the monthly business of the school district, had lengthy discussions on reopening of schools and equity and inclusion in our schools.

As work to reopen schools is at the forefront of our daily tasks, we are determined to prioritize the necessary and important work that must be done around issues of diversity and inclusivity. Specifically, creating opportunities for listening, learning, and systemic change in our culturally responsive teaching practices and within our school communities.

You may view the School Board meeting here.

We remain committed to keeping you informed on the progress of our work and any changes that may be required. Please continue to watch your email and our website for additional updates and decisions as well as clear guides and information for staff ahead of your return.

Thank you for your support, your flexibility, your candid and respectful reflections, and your ongoing commitment to education.

Sincerely,

Craig Gerlach, Ed.S.
Superintendent
