Leaders of Learning
This week's nominees:
Sheith Davis: I would like to nominate Mrs. Davis for being a proactive leader on Thursday afternoon staying late to update Dreambox on the iPads in the STEAM lab. They are now ready for use on Monday.
I would like to nominate the Instructional Assistants for collaborating with teachers about possible Reading Mastery candidates. They are working really hard to prepare for testing and instruction. Great Job!
Tamika Hobbs-Sansbury: I would like to nominate Ms. Tamika for helping with student information and keeping me up-to-date on new enrollments, etc. Thank you!
Marcia Spencer: I want to nominate Marcia Spencer for stepping back into the assistant role overnight! Marcia has already begun to pull children for sight word work and is doing a great job helping the children each day with her positive nuturing.
I want to nominate the kindergarten team for preparing our 1st graders in children in math, reading and writing for first grade! You guys did a fabulous job!
Ebony Smith and Alicia Nazar have been helping the kindergarten students with lunch allowing the teachers a chance to eat.
Sheith Davis shared a behavior calendar for the entire year already completed with explanation of colors and the circles for students to fill in!
Angie Meadows: I'd like to nominate Angie Meadows for the leadership board. She does such an awesome job welcoming her students in the morning! She makes each one of them feel so special when they walk in the door. I know she made my day better by her positive attitude first thing in the morning!

Making our Hive Thrive
K – Teachers are giving students opportunities to work together to establish relationships and form what will soon become great learning teams. They are also collaborating and seeking support to ensure that children feel successful each day.
1st – Teachers are collaborating about different ways to incorporate Imagine Learning during literacy assignments. One teacher has started incorporating rotations that are timed and it is working! A teacher is working on creating a system with the word READ: R – Read with Teacher, E – Explore Imagine Learning, A – At Your Seat Literacy Assignment Time, D – Dig Into Good Fit Books. During small group time, students will rotate based on this organizational system.
2nd – Teachers are starting with the concrete when teaching new math concepts. Students are manipulating objects which will prepare them for the representational stage. Teachers are really analyzing the mclass data and seeing how to restructure groups based on strengths and weaknesses.

Remember if you want to schedule the conference room, please put it on the conference room calendar. Everyone should have access to view it. Those of you that schedule meetings regularly should have access to input info. If you don’t have access, let me or Tamika know and we will schedule it for you!
2nd grade
Thank you to all the second grade teachers for some of your time this week!! By the end of this week, I will have met with each student in second grade! I am finding out some great information. Once I am all done, I will share with you any red flags I’ve noticed.
First grade is next week!
SNACKS
I have tons of snacks that the PTA collected. Don’t be afraid to ask for some.
Important mClass Announcement!!
Amplify is pleased to announce that starting August 18, students’ mCLASS® data will automatically follow them when they transfer from one in-state district or charter to another. Here is some important information you should be aware of as we proceed with this new feature:
· From 5 p.m. August 14 through 9 p.m. August 17, mCLASS Home will be unavailable as Amplify implements this enhancement. During this period, users will get an “invalid login” message if they try to log in to assess students or view data on mCLASS Home.
· Sync any assessment data you have before 5 p.m. August 14. Any data not synced by then will be lost.
Please note that this means we will lose a day of assessment (August 17) during the window. Please plan accordingly. I'm sorry for the anxiety I'm sure this causes you. Let us know how we can help.
Advisory Councils for this year
Please help me get the word out about the various councils that Moore County Schools will be offering this year. Parents are able to participate in any of these councils, but I need to provide specific names of those who will regularly participate. If you know of a parent that would be a great advocate, please let me know so that I can reach out to him/her and extend the invitation to represent our school at these meetings. Thank you!

Minority Parent Group – MINPG

Walkthrough Focus
Brittany Bonner: Shared enthusiasm for learning between students and teachers is evident. When Brittany invited a student over to her table to read to her, the girl enthusiastically responded with a vocal "Yes!". Meanwhile, students were so focused on their comfortable reading positions (on the floor with pillows throughout the room and in corners of the room) that they did not even notice when I entered the classroom. That is serious enthusiasm for learning. Thanks Brittany!
Angie Meadows/Tena Jordan: Enriched Environment: Teacher shapes the physical and social environment of the classroom to enhance learning. Angie and Tena have worked hard to create colorful and well defined spaces for reading, computer work, small group instruction. If you get a chance, go visit their classroom and see these well designed spaces. :)
Annie Osterman: Shared enthusiasm for learning between students and teachers is evident. During whole group, the students were enthusiastic about activity on "push and pull" on the smart board. Annie's instructional decisions resulted in students who were engaged and excited about their learning. Way to go Annie!
