A Note from the principal
Hello Easley Families!
Well, we've finally made it to the last week of the school year despite it not ending like we all had planned. Thank you for all you've done to make this a good year for our students and staff despite the school closure. I'm so thankful for our Easley community!
It was wonderful seeing so many of our students and families for the fifth grade promotion celebration on Friday. I apologize for getting so emotional during the Zoom ceremony and needing to take a moment to get myself together; I did not see that coming! I have definitely had many emotions around missing these last fews months of school with all our students and the heaviness of the last few weeks hit me like a ton of bricks in that moment. As I mentioned before, these fifth graders hold a very special place in my heart as they were the first group of kids that I've had the joy of watching go all the way through elementary school with me serving as their principal. Sending them on to middle school was always going to be sentimental and not having these last weeks together made it especially hard to say goodbye; however, thanks to our amazing staff and families, were were able to send them off feeling loved and celebrated!
Each grade level has an end of year celebration planned on Zoom this week and I look forward to seeing all the kids as we wrap up the school year with some fun and togetherness! You will receive the links to the Zooms from your child's classroom teacher.
In acknowledgement of all that is going on around us, and across the country, I would like to reiterate the statement put forth by Durham Public Schools regarding Black Lives Matter. (See HERE). We realize these are difficult and disheartening times for many of our families, and especially for our Black families. We’ve posted some read-alouds in your child’s Media Google Classroom that will affirm our support for the movement and potentially start some conversations for all our families.
Don’t forgot how important reading over the summer is! We have two programs to encourage you to read. One is from the Durham County Library. They are still preparing to launch, so look for information coming soon to the Easley website. Remember, everyone has a library card through their Power School number. In addition, Ms. Hartley will be placing a form on our website. Each time you read a book and fill out the form, you will be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift card to the Regulator book shop. The more you read and fill out the form, the better your chance of winning! Here is the form:
Do you have a rising kindergarten student? Are you wondering about registration? Durham Public Schools is in the process of creating a new registration process in light of our current situation. In the meantime we are in the midst of planning classes for next year and would like to know who will be registering with Easley. Hopefully we will be starting in July; right now we are planning as if that is the case. Please take a moment and complete the form below.
