A Note from Dr. Bright and Mr. Norton

What a great week at Crestwood!

We packed 5 days of learning, fun, play, a field trip, Groundhog day, our 100th day, and an assembly all into a 4 day week!

Our theme for the month at Crestwood is Empathy. As we enter this month, Dr. Bright and I wanted to share with you some messaging we've been using around Black History Month during announcements sourced from Dr. Mason, our Director of Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity. Our hope is that this information might enrich any conversations had at home.

"Black History is American History and should be highlighted and celebrated throughout the year. In the month of February, we will get a chance to continue to spotlight the amazing work, resilience, and contributions of African Americans. We are excited to see the displayed information and celebrations in our school building! We look forward to amplifying the voices of Black people!"

My family (Norton/Van Horn) is a transracial-adoptive family. We proudly proclaim "Black History ALWAYS. We happen to celebrate it in February!"

Dr. Bright and I are so very excited to see our school community come together to bring voice and value to Black people through the celebrations we have in store this month! I am grateful to be a part of a staff that places a priority on building a culture of belonging!

Peace and thanks, Crestwood Community!

Pants needed for the Nurses Offfice!

I am in need of pants in the nurse’s office for students. I currently have very little supply. A few things would help this. If I gave your child a pair of pants from here, please return them. Also, make sure your child has an extra pair of pants and underwear with them in their cubbies at school.

Clothing is needed for students, not just for accidents, but muddy wet clothes that come with outside play, a major food spill, or other things. It is always good to have an extra pair at school, just in case. If you would like to donate any used pants that you no longer need, I would greatly appreciate it. I need girl stretch pants size 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and boys sweatpants size 5, 6,7,8,9,10. I do not need jeans or shirts at this time.

Thank you.

District Updates

Sora Reading App Gives Students Access to Library Content Online

Our district is committed to bringing unique learning opportunities to our students, and we are pleased to introduce a new student reading app called Sora that provides students with access to read digital books. The collection of titles in Sora is an extension of Lindbergh’s physical libraries, in an app format that provides 24/7 access to ebooks and audiobooks. In addition, our partnership includes access to the St. Louis County Library’s Juvenile collection as well. Sora can help students of all ages read more and improve comprehension. Students of all abilities and interest levels can benefit from this service.
