October Tech Tip: Headphones for New Apple Products
Apple unveiled the new iPhone 7 during a special event this week. The iPhone 7 added water-resistance and dust proofing, a faster 12MP, a rear-facing camera and front-facing camera. The iPhone 7 does not have a headphone port – it will be bundled with a new pair of Earpods: these connect via Lightning. It will also be bundled with a Lightning-to-mini phono adaptor, so you'll be able to use any and all current headphones that use a 3.5mm jack, with the iPhone 7.
Why is Apple removing the headphone port? One word said Apple - courage. But the company argued that Lightning is a good efficient audio connection standard with a large base of users and accessories. The company also said that the headphone port is more than a hundred years old and taking up space that is needed for other features.
Innovative Teaching and Learning
- Compare and contrast the features of the iPhone 7 with the iPad in your school
- Create a class graph of favorite features of the iPad
- Research and list three advantages and three disadvantages of digital Lightning connectors for a mobile device
- Write a persuasive essay using the following prompt; The Apple 7 came out with a new iPhone model using the digital Lightning connectors. Convince your audience to buy this product because of this feature or convince them to keep their original devices.
- Write a new marketing slogan or tagline for your iPad

What Good Looks Like
EDUCREATIONS
Educreations is a unique interactive whiteboard and screencasting tool that's simple, powerful, and fun to use. Annotate, animate, and narrate nearly any type of content as you explain any concept. Teachers can create short instructional videos and share them instantly with students, or ask students to show what they know and help friends learn.
Educreations has now updated their app so you can start a lesson on one iPad, then switch to a different iPad and continue working right where you left off. Saved lesson drafts now sync between multiple iPads the same way your finished lessons do.
DRAGON DICTATION
Dragon Dictation recognizes and transcribes your words at lightning speed, and gives you the flexibility to dictate for any situation.
Please welcome our new Vanguard Teachers:

NEXT STEPS FOR VANGUARDS: WHAT GOOD LOOKS LIKE
- Meet with your instructional team at least once a month at a designated time and place to summarize and share this SMORE and professional development and how you differentiate this information to your teachers. The instructional team consists of you, your Principal, Lead Literacy Teacher, Lead Tech Teacher and Assistant Principal.
- Sign up for Apple Teacher. How many badges can you accumulate by November 3? The goal will be ONE - GETTING STARTED ON YOUR iPAD. There is a lot of information to learn and teach. Think about how you will teach the teachers.
- Ensure that your teachers are registered on the iTunes U courses above. Use Toby as your "go to" Education Manager for Technology. If I don't know the answer, I will direct you appropriately. Use FaceTime as much as you can. My cell is 215-680-0123. I am also here to coach you and help you plan your professional development sessions.
OUR NEXT SESSION WILL RESUME ON NOVEMBER 3, 2016
