What we've been up to.
- Our preparations for Earth day are in full swing. This week we learned that our school is sponsoring a Vaquita (marine mammal that lives on the West Coast). We looked at a world map to locate the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, North America and Massachusetts. We also enjoyed a special delivery of fresh apples from the PTC for snack.
- Our nonfiction books are looking great. It is very exciting to see your students becoming experts on their topics and embracing the identifying/using text features!
- We are mastering the number line and are ready to move ahead to look at tables. We will be looking at ways to divide groups into parts and then put them back into a whole. We have also been practicing skip counting by fives and twos, skills you can practice at home. For children still confused by transitions between number families (e.g.: 29, 30, 31), keep practicing counting at home. Collecting warm fuzzies are a great way to encourage counting, grouping and adding!
- Our lego creator character pages are a huge hit and have inspired a lot of creative book making.
- Spring Journals have become part of our daily routine. Journaling supports technical writing skills while encouraging students to choose writing topics independently. We have had a flurry of interest in creating and taking surveys during journal time!
Thanks to our Mystery Reader!
Our youngest mystery reader yet visited K-C this week! Ben's mom Heather and his baby sister Maya came in to read Wild About Books by Judi Sierra. Though it was a great book choice, the highlight was that I got to rock Maya while Heather took over the class :)

The things kids say. For real.
Mrs. Cohen: These apples are for us to eat at snack to celebrate Earth Day!
Student 1: Can you peel mine? I don't like to eat the peel.
Life is full of disappointments :)
