We Can Emerge Stronger
Der Raleigh Hills Staff,
First and foremost, I am thinking about all of you and your families. Your health and the health of your family and friends is the most important thing right now. I hope you and your families are safe and well. I miss you and the thought of not seeing you and our students for many weeks is difficult. As much as I look forward to vacations, this situation has grounded me in how much I love my work and how much that is about connections with all of you, our students, and our families. This circumstance can feel isolating, so it's important to find ways to keep up our connections. I have really enjoyed connecting with friends using Zoom, and I encourage you to try it! It was really fun to get together with staff on Wednesday for Virtual Happy Hour.
I will be communicating in the coming days regarding next steps, but I hope everyone can rest this weekend and take care of yourselves and loved ones. The information included below is for your planning purposes and is not intended for you to act on until next week. A colleague was sharing with me yesterday that the Oregon Food Bank has #EmergeStronger as their motto right now, and we agreed that this very much fits for schools as well. We will get through this, and we will emerge stronger based on how we take care of ourselves and each other right now.
I miss all of you and our students and families very much. Lots of love -
Jennifer

"That Discomfort You're Feeling Is Grief" (Harvard Business Review)
I read this article this morning and it resonated with many feelings I have right now. Here is the executive summary with a link to the full article below:
Optional Learning
Some of you have emailed or texted about things to do right now in preparation for remote learning. This is your Spring Break, so you are not required to do anything right now and the rest and connection with loved ones is most important.
That said, I also understand the boredom and interest in doing some optional learning while you are staying home. I have seen and heard about many things out there, but there are some tools that may be more helpful. If you are interested in learning more about Zoom to facilitate connections with family, friends, and colleagues, here are some helpful tools to start:
How to Log Into Zoom with your School Account
District officials are meeting every day over the break and will continue to put out additional guidance for staff on email. If you’d like to do some other optional learning while you’re at home, here are some links to things that I’ve been looking at while home:
SeesSaw Remote Learning Training
Although BSD has digital resources online for parents and it is not required that you are in contact with your families, I’ve been interested in ways to reach out to families. If you are too, and you’re bored, those links might be interesting to you. I know that middle school teachers can be in touch via Canvas, but remote learning would look much different at elementary.
