Message from the Principal

Hello, Parents and Guardians of the Pawsome Pumas,

Welcome back from Spring Break. This week has been so eventful, and I am always pleased to know that our scholars are eager to continue their educational journey here at Prairie.

This is going to be an eventful weekend. The Puma Sharks will be participating in the Optimist Swim Meet at Waukesha South. They are led by Mrs. Michelle Anderson and Mr. Randy Booth.

Mrs. Wirth has been working with our scholars to prepare for the Waukesha Sings Concert at Waukesha West.

It is great to see our scholars continue to tap into their talents.

This week, I have tried to be out to help with the flow of traffic for the parking lot. I understand it is a valued convenience to park on the side of the school. Prior to Spring Break, we had several calls from the bus company and from parents concerning the safety of our driveway. We have witnessed two key problems:

1) The flow of traffic delays buses and drop off vans.

2) The safety of our scholars and our desire to not have a major accident. There have been times that the entrance has also been utilized as the exit way and have resulted in some close calls in regards to potential accidents.

We want to do everything in our power to ensure the safety of all our scholars and families. Thank you for your support.

Principal Search

The search for the new principal of Prairie Elementary is underway. The posting for the position closed on April 4th. District Office will begin sending out video interviews for the selected candidates. Next week Friday, the selected candidates will interview at Lindholm with the District Leadership Team. On Thursday, April 18th the final candidates will interview here at Prarie. The SAIL Team which consists of Jenny Restock, Kim Ferguson, Barb Blott, Emily Sowinski, Melissa Brendel, and Maria Klassy will represent the building as well as Vicki Anderson, our school secretary. Doug Paczesny and Megan Zielinski will be the parent representatives on the interview team.

We want the feedback of our parents regarding what you are looking for in the next principal. There is a link below for additional input from our parent community. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the office or to Jody Landish at

Forward Testing

Next week is Forward Testing at Prairie. Forward Testing is used as an opportunity for our scholars to show what they know. The data from this year's assessment will be used to formulate next year's State Report Card. Please help us prepare our scholars in third, fourth, and fifth grades by:

Getting a good night's rest

Making sure they have a healthy breakfast

Arrive at school on time

Encouraging our scholars to do their absolute best

We know our scholars will do their best. We know that one assessment will not define our scholars. However, it will help us assess where we are and where we are going.

Waukesha Sings

Hello Prairie Families!

The School District of Waukesha music program is having a Choral Festival on Saturday, April 6th at Waukesha West. Registered scholars in grades 3, 4, and 5 from various elementary schools will be having a concert following the event at 5:30pm. Admission is free to anyone who wishes to attend. Please come and support our young musicians! Attached is the flyer with concert information.

For those already registered, this is the link to the website with all of the information for the day. Here you can find the schedule, practice tracks, and sheet music.

Daily Office Procedures/Check In

As a reminder, parents cannot be anywhere in the building without checking in at the office and receiving a pass. The pass is processed through a system that uses your driver's license. Please have it available when you come in. We welcome your visits for lunch and planned visits to the classrooms.

If you are picking up your child for an appointment, we will call the classroom when you arrive and have the student come to the office. We request that you wait in the lobby for your child to come. Also, if you are dropping off something to be delivered to your child, we will take it in the office and deliver it for you. This avoids the processing of the pass and disruption in your child's classroom.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the office. More details on the Raptor check-in system are detailed later in this newsletter.

Raptor Check In Procedures

As you are aware, the district has started a new process for checking in visitors to the school. If you are coming in to the school during the day and staying in the building in any capacity (visiting for lunch, volunteering in a classroom, meeting with a teacher, etc), you will need to submit your driver's license. We will process it through our Raptor system and print a badge for you to wear. If you just need to drop something off or are signing in your child, you will not need to be checked in. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping all our scholars safe!
