Highlights from Our Students
December Artist of the Month
From LDF Art Teacher, Ms. Katie Black: Our Artist of the Month is Clarice Mitchell, a 7th grader. She is a skilled drawer, but loves to sculpt the most with clay. She challenged herself with drawing hands in her half portrait assignment.
6th grade teacher, Ms. Deborah McCulloch's, Haunted Mansion Oct. FUN!
1st place/Saphyra Armstrong & 3rd place/Peyton Stone
The assignment was to create a picture of their haunted house (back in October) and use descriptive and persuasive writing to get their classmates to "buy" (they voted) for the house they would want to buy. It was a fun way to get the kids writing. Ms. McCulloch also gave out 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes. There were 3 students who were tied for 3rd place. Great job students!!
2nd place Raynii LaBarge
More 6th grade fun!
Felix Ernst 3rd place-- Kain LaBarge-😉
The design for this Haunted Mansion is perfect!
Would you buy this Haunted Mansion for 100 million/100,100,100?? Maybe in a game of Monopoly!
Address: 123 Spookyville Ave. Spookyville, USA-ever heard of it?
JV Girls Basketball Team pic/halftime talk!

School Reminders & Notices
Christmas Concerts
This year the concerts will only be these grade levels: 1st, 3rd, & 5th. At 2:00 p.m.
Then, Middle School, Beginning Band and Ukulele at 7:00 p.m. Odd grades will have a concert in the Winter and Even grades will have a concert in the Spring. This way all students have an opportunity for Winter and Spring concerts, but only one a year (which follows national guidelines for performance standards at this age and allows for less disruption of curriculum). THIS YEAR, 4th graders are going to also be invited to perform the National Anthem at the high school sometime in Jan. before a basketball game. This will be a fully optional event that families will have to arrange rides for, and Ms. Kendra will have more info later. Thank you. (If parents need more guided information please reach out to LDF School.)

Helping Your Child Receive the Full Benefit of Their Education-Facts from the Attendance Office
An absence is any time your child misses any portion of the school day after the start of school (8:10 AM) and before the scheduled end of school (3:25 PM).
Absences are further broken down as excused and unexcused.
All excused absences require communication with school. Any absence lacking communication remains unexcused until such time as information is provided to the school. For an absence to be excused, we need communication from you (email, phone call, written note). It is never too late to communicate for a past absence. Remember, good attendance is more than simply complying with laws; rather, it is truly a matter of providing our children with more and better opportunities to learn!

7 Grandfather Teachings
The traditional concepts of respect and sharing that form the foundation of the Native American way of life are built around the seven natural laws, or sacred teachings. Each teaching honors one of the basic virtues intrinsic to a full and healthy life.
Each law is embodied by an animal to underscore the point that all actions and decisions made by man are manifest on a physical plain. The animal world taught man how to live close to the earth, and the connection that has been established between the animal world and that of man has instilled a respect for all life in those who follow the traditional way.
- The Eagle teaches us LOVE. Love must be unconditional.
- The Buffalo teaches us RESPECT. Respect is the condition of being honored.
- The Bear teaches us COURAGE. Courage is the ability to face danger, fear, or changes with confidence and bravery.
- The Butterfly teaches us HONESTY.
- The Beaver teaches us WISDOM. Wisdom is the ability to make decisions based on personal knowledge and experience.
- The Wolf teaches us HUMILITY. Humility is being humble and not arrogant.
- The Turtle teaches us TRUTH. Truth is to know and understand all the seven teachings have given to us by the Creator and to remain faithful to them.
THE NEXT POWOW IS DECEMBER 1-AWARDING WISDOM-INTRODUCING LOVE
The Eagle teaches us LOVE. Love must be unconditional. To feel true love is to know the Creator. Therefore, it is expected that one's first love is to be the Great Spirit. He is considered the father of all children, and the giver of human life. Love given to the Great Spirit is expressed through love of oneself, and it is understood that if one cannot love oneself, it is impossible to love anyone else. The Eagle was chosen by the Great Spirit to represent this law, as the Eagle can reach the highest out of all the creatures in bringing pure vision to the seeker. Though the purveyor of the greatest and most powerful medicine, love can also be the most elusive of the teachings, as it depends upon a world that acknowledges the importance of spirituality.
12/1 -- POWWOW BEGINS AT 2:30 - ENDS AT 3:15-LOCATION - BIG GYM.
