Building Relationships
Morning Meetings
Building relationships and communication skills within our classrooms has been a focus for us this year. One of the ways that we are working towards this goal is through Morning Meetings. During this time we come together as a class with greetings, sharing time, daily messages from the teacher, and engaging activities that promote a sense of belonging and importance. We have enjoyed watching our students using their greetings as well as implementing lessons of kindness learned with others throughout our building.
Sharing Time
Mrs. Gaulden leads her morning meeting share time.
Activity
Mrs. Baccus has her students engaged in their morning meeting activity time.
Greeting
Eye contact and a firm handshake are life skills that are crucial in our social development.
Reading Buddies
Using what we are learning through our morning meetings, our 5th graders have been busy building relationships with the Castle's youngest knights. Sharing books, building communication and social skills, and being a positive peer role model is the goal of this student centered program. The smiles, waves, and little hugs the students share with their reading buddies in the halls each day, demonstrate the effectiveness of this program.
Modeling Reading Strategies
Helping young readers build fluency skills through modeling.
Listening and Reflecting
Working with young readers to build comprehension skills.
Communication and Listening
Spending time building communication skills through play and interaction promotes self confidence for all our students.
