What is new?
We have officially completed all the Fountas and Pinnell reading tests on all of our friends in the class. I am very proud that 84% of the class is reading on or above grade level. As I have mentioned in the past your child will begin bringing home books on their level that they can read throughout the week and return on Fridays. Every Friday they will get new books to bring home on Mondays. There is a sheet in the envelope that I will send home that I need for your child to write down the book they read on that night and tell me if they liked it or not, then you will sign off on it. When your child brings back their books they will receive new ones. Thanks to our Youth Friend Stacy Field, who is willing to come in on Fridays to help with the choosing of new books. I redid our classroom library area so it is all ready for "book shopping".
I have started another assessment this week. It is the same assessment I administered in the Fall. It measures where they are in letter sounds, quantity discrimination and missing number. Those results will be sent home at the end of January.
We have an eventful next few weeks at Bell Prairie, make sure and mark your calendars!
Sight Words next week: he, she, girl, boy
Please continue to work on these with your child at home!

What we learned!
Writers Workshop-Our new unit "How To" has begun. I tend to like this unit as they get to teach someone something they are good at. For example: How to play soccer or how to make pancakes. We started the week just planning our ideas and are slowing getting to the writing piece of it.
