Relief Society Newsletter

Syracuse South Stake, May 2016

Dear Sisters,

We hope that you are enjoying the beauty of the springtime all around you. I recently came across a beautiful quote to share, the author is unknown. “Nature reminds us, when the smallest of things come together something beautiful opens before our eyes. Our lives are like nature. When we bring all of our moments together, it unfolds into something beautiful. Enjoy the moments, they are unfolding into something beautiful.” May you know that you are something beautiful, and thank you for all you do to create beautiful moments in the lives of so many. Please know of our love for you and our willingness to help in whatever capacity we are able.

“Relief Society prepares women for the blessings of eternal life by helping them increase their faith and personal righteousness, strengthen families and homes, and help those in need.” (Handbook 2:9.1.1)

Our Homes Can be a Place of Refuge

As the storms of the world rage all around us it has never been more imperative that we have our homes be a place of refuge, a place where love, learning, strength, and spirituality reside. A place where we can consistently strengthen ourselves and our families from the swirling winds of the world that can surround each of us. Cheryl A Esplin said: “God gave us families to help us become what He wants us to be. Families are the Lord’s workshop on earth to help us learn and live the gospel. We come into our families with a sacred duty to help strengthen each other spiritually. Strong eternal families and Spirit-filled homes do not just happen. They take great effort, they take time, and they take each member of the family doing his or her part. Every home is different, but every home where even one individual seeks for truth can make a difference.” (Filling our Homes with Light and Truth, April 2015)

In D&C 88:119 we read: “Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God.”

President Monson said: “A home is much more than a house built of lumber, brick, or stone. A home is made of love, sacrifice, and respect. We are responsible for the homes we build. We must build wisely, for eternity is not a short voyage. There will be calm and wind, sunlight and shadows, joy and sorrow. But if we really try, our home can be a bit of heaven here on earth. The thoughts we think, the deeds we do, the lives we live not only influence the success of our earthly journey, they also mark the way to our eternal goals.” (Heavenly Homes, Forever Families, June 2006).
