We get strep throat from pathogens that are spread. The type of pathogen for strep throat is bacteria. The pathogens will spread through direct contact with people that are infected or being around an infected person that is sneezing or coughing.

Antibiotics such as amoxicillin, cephalexin, or penicillin are used to treat strep throat. Antibiotics work only against bacterial infections.
