Hansen Weekly Update

November 10, 2022

Big picture

Hi Hansen Students, Parents, and Families!

I hope you enjoy the upcoming three day weekend, and thank you to all former and current members of our armed forces. Your sacrifice and courage are honored and respected and please know how much we appreciate you on this Veterans Day!

Here at the Hansen, our students and staff have had a great week of teaching and learning. While we only had three days with students, staff came together on Tuesday for a day of professional learning and collaboration. We spent time building our vision for high quality teaching, learning, and leading, worked with colleagues from across the district to create intellectually challenging tasks, and spent time with our respective departments and colleagues where many of our teachers engaged in math-related professional learning. Teachers are learners, too!

Please enjoy some of this week's highlights below...

Creating a Culture of Equity, Achievement, Inspiration, and Joy!

Food Drive to Support Project 351

Once again, the Hansen School is partnering with students from Canton High School to support their annual food drive as a part of Project 351. Beginning next week on November 14 there will be a donation bin near our main entrance, and we will collect non-perishable food items through November 23. All donations will be sent to the Canton Food Pantry. Thank you in advance for supporting this drive if you are able!

Parent/Teacher Conferences - Reminder

Parent/Teacher Conferences are approaching, and we are looking forward to connecting with families! Conferences will be held on Thursday, November 17 from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. and again on Friday, November 18 from 1:00 - 3:30 p.m.

Teachers will be coordinating meeting times with families, and there are options to participate virtually or in-person. Please note, whatever you initially indicate as your preference will be scheduled and families will not be able to change (for example, if you indicate your wish for a virtual conference, you will not be able to switch to in-person). While we do our best to accommodate the needs of families, this creates disruption to our schedules. We appreciate your understanding, and again, we are looking forward to connecting with our families during the two conference dates!

Fall Mini-Book Fair Next Week!

Next week during the Parent/Teacher Conferences, we will also be holding a Mini-Book Fair. Thank you to Hansen Librarian, Mrs. Harding, and CAPT volunteer, Mr. Appleby, for their support and coordination of this event! Please check out this flyer for more information.

Title I Information Night - Reminder

If your child is receiving reading support in the reading room, please join us for our Title 1 Information Night on Tuesday, November 29 at 6:30pm at the Rodman Administration Building in Room 33A.

Please RSVP via the email that you received from Ms. Coyle, our Title 1 Coordinator.

Bus Evacuation Drill - Coming Soon

The Hansen School is in the process of scheduling an upcoming Bus Evacuation Drill at the school. I will share the date once it is finalized. During this drill, we have a bus parked outside and all students practice exiting the bus, with adult support, through the rear emergency exit.

In addition, we take this opportunity to remind students of our expectations for safety and behavior while riding the bus. Students need to remain seated, with hands and feet out of the aisle. Students need to keep their hands to themselves, and need to be respectful in their language and conversations with peers. Thank you for reinforcing these expectations at home, and please reach out with any questions about our scheduled Bus Evacuation Drill.

Picture Re-Take Day - Reminder

For anyone that missed our first picture day or would like their child's picture re-taken, the Hansen Picture Re-Take will take place on Monday, November 21.

Community Connections

Canton Public Schools has a Community Resources and Information Page on its website titled Around Town. This page lists resources and events taking place in our community. To access the information on this webpage, use this link: About/Around Town.

This webpage will be updated periodically.
