Pe and wellness news
Students started on our big circle with a variety of strength and balance moves. They continued warming up with a run/walk game that was as simple as running fast enough to keep a piece of paper on one's chest. Then we did PACER practice. The PACER is a 20 meter shuttle run that tests aerobic capacity. All classes will do a PACER test next week. For grades 3-5, we record the yearlong progress of fitness. For K-2 students, they are gaining experience and a good workout. Students in grades 3-5 played a throwing game called Castle Ball. Grades K-2 played with scoops.
WELLNESS NEWS
The Kindness Wall has been filled with thoughtful messages. There are now over 30 runners who have reached 10 miles in AIM. Yoga is offered each Monday and Friday at break. On October 17, at Cheldelin Middle School, an elementary mile precedes the middle school cross country meet. The race starts promptly at 4:00, so make sure to arrive in plenty of time. Mr. Behrens has entry forms.
Our own walk/race, the 12th annual Autumn Amble is Friday the 18th at 9:30. All grades participate, and we still need more parent volunteers, please sign up here: https://signup.com/go/fTPdQCR Hope to see you there!
OBOB
This past week of October 7th, OBOB began at Adams School! OBOB (Oregon Battle of the Books) is a state-wide fall/winter event for 3rd - 5th graders. Small student groups are formed to read select books and have 'knowledge battles' in a fun and social way. This week (Oct 7-11) the students were introduced to OBOB during their library time and have had the opportunity to check out an OBOB book and form their teams. Ask your 3rd, 4th or 5th grader if they want to participate! Aside from reading books at home, the entire commitment for OBOB is during school hours. Everyone is welcome. For more information please ask in the office or contact Tracy Erwin, tlerwin1@gmail.com or visit https://www.oregonbattleofthebooks.org/
Adams Wear
Adams Wear sales and free T-shirt requests are now closed. Orders will be delivered to your student in November.
A huge thank you to the Adams Parents Association (APA) for making this possible. Thank you Adams families as well for helping us to make Adams Elementary spirit shine!
Student Success Act Survey
You have an important role to play. We need your input to help develop a plan to best meet the needs of our students and our community.
Box Tops
Each Box Top clip is worth 10 cents...and they add up! There are now 2 ways to collect and donate Box Tops. Box Tops for Education is going digital, and in the transition they are accepting both clips and scans.
If your package has a traditional Box Top clip, cut it off and send it into school.
If your package has a Scan Your Receipt Box Top, download the free Box Tops for Education App, set your school for Adams Elementary School, and scan your grocery receipts. It's fast and easy!
