School Safety
We place high priority on the safety of our students and staff. All school visitors, including parents/guardians and volunteers are expected to check in to the office when entering campus and wear a visitor badge when in the school.
To learn more about BSD safety plans, please visit our Public Safety homepage. You will find helpful videos and other resources, as well as a link to signing up for SMS notifications in the event of an emergency.
Parking Lot Traffic Flow
During the first few weeks of school we typically experience higher than average traffic in our parking lots before/after school. We encourage students to ride the bus or carpool to help alleviate parking lot congestion and lessen our impact on the environment.
Click here to view ISB’s Parking Lot traffic flow and parking lot safety tips. If you are waiting to pick your student(s) up in the afternoon, please stay in your car and allow your student to come to you. Thank you for modeling patience, consideration for other drivers & pedestrians, as well as safe driving practices for our student drivers (and those who are soon to be driving).
PSAT Registration
Junior and Sophomore students are encouraged to sign up to take the PSAT test this fall. The PSAT is a standardized test of skills in reading, writing, math, and critical thinking. This is a National Merit Scholarship qualifying test and helps students to prepare for taking the SAT. ISB students will test on Wednesday, October 10 from 7:30 am - noon. To register you only need to submit payment of $25 to Ms. Meyer in the office (or pay online). Please see counselors Ms. Hirsch or Mrs. Muilenburg if you need a scholarship/waiver for the test fee.
Physical Education Program (PEP) Grant K-8
The Beaverton School District has been awarded a $669,484 Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP) Grant from the U.S. Department of Education and is in year two of the three year grant. The Beaverton School District (BSD) has developed a comprehensive project to improve the quality of physical education in the District, increase physical activity before, during, and after school, and create a school culture of wellness and activity that improves student health, nutrition, social/emotional development, and learning outcomes. In addition to the grant funds, the District has developed several community partnerships to support the project including Nike and Tualatin Hills for a contribution of over $235,000. The BSD program will serve more than 28,000 K-8 students. As part of this grant there is required data that must be collected on physical activity, nutrition and physical fitness. Please read the attached form with more information about the data collection. If after reading you decide your student will not participate in the data collection, print, sign and send the form back to the main office of your student’s school.
Do You Make a Difference Through Volunteering?
Middle and High School student volunteers are invited to apply for a Prudential Spirit of Community Award. In each state and Washington, D.C., the top middle level and high school applicant will be named State Honorees and will receive an award of $1,000, an engraved silver medallion, and an all-expense-paid trip with a parent or guardian to Washington, D.C. During the trip, 10 of the State Honorees will be named America's top youth volunteers of the year. These National Honorees will receive $5,000 awards, engraved gold medallions, crystal trophies for their schools, and $5,000 grants from The Prudential Foundation for nonprofit charitable organizations of their choice. All Local Honorees who have committed a minimum number of hours to their volunteer activities will receive the President's Volunteer Service Award. Go to http://spirit.prudential.com or www.nassp.org/spirit to access the online application. Deadline: November 6, 2018.
High School Dances & Guest Passes
Before long, homecoming season will be upon us. ISB high school students who wish to attend dances at other BSD high schools must complete and submit a Guest Pass to that school. Guest Passes require they attend the dance with a student who is enrolled at that school. Similarly, students wishing to attend a high school dance at ISB must be a guest of a current ISB high school student and submit a completed Guest Pass before being able to purchase a ticket. Typically guest passes must be received by other schools the Thursday prior to a Saturday dance and must include the signatures of the host & guest student, as well as a parent/guardian of each, and the guest student's Asst. Principal or Principal. We encourage you to plan ahead.
High School After School Activity Buses
ISB students who participate in sports and activities at their neighborhood high schools have the opportunity to use after school activity buses. High school after school activities buses feature “transit style” bus routes for students. Students will be assigned stops within ½ mile of their homes. All stops will allow students to utilize sidewalks and not have to cross busy streets. The majority of stops will be located near major housing areas (apartments, community centers, or neighborhood elementary schools). The advantage to having assigned stops is the ability for parents to access the My Stop App (https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/depts/trans/Pages/MyStop.aspx) to track their child’s bus. For questions regarding your assigned after school activity bus stop, please contact your neighborhood high school office.
Volunteers
We welcome volunteers in our classrooms, shared learning spaces, and co-curricular activities. If you are interested in volunteering please submit a volunteer and background check application. If you are new to ISB, but have volunteered at another BSD school, please send an email to update_volunteer_locations@beaverton.k12.or.us to add or remove a school location.
College & Career Planning
Every year the Beaverton School District College & Career Readiness Counselors organize several presentations throughout the year to provide information on the pathway to college.
