Social-emotional needs of gifted kids
https://www.byrdseed.com/10-facts-about-social-emotional-needs-of-the-gifted/ and wanted to share them with you. Through conferences, I realized that the greatest need among the GT students is working on some of the social and emotional needs among the students and classes. I heard a lot of requests for help with anxiety, organizational skills, perfectionism, feeling overwhelmed and procrastinating, taking responsibility vs making excuses, impulsivity, and several more. I will try to provide resources and information on these topics as well as address them in GT classes through some social-emotional awareness activities. Please feel free to share anything you have found particularly helpful with me as well so that I may pass it along and please don't hesitate to request help from me on certain issues you find challenging.
One suggestion I found myself giving throughout the day was implementing the use of a calendar and even color-coding different activities or assignments to help with time-management and as a way of reducing stress. I will implement this again in GT classes as well since I know parents and students found this particularly helpful in years past. I know it seems basic, but it really has been a useful aid for the students for a variety of reasons. Try it out and let me know how it goes!
