Readings for Halloween
Poe's Children: The New Horror
This collection of previously published spooky short fiction stories from twentieth and twenty-first century writers features "The Sadness of Detail" by Jonathan Carroll, "The Ballad of the Flexible Bullet" from Stephen King, "October in the Chair" by Neil Gaiman, and others.
Lockdown: Escape from Furnace (Book 1)
When 14-year-old Alex is framed for murder, he becomes an inmate in the Furnace Penitentiary, where brutal inmates and sadistic guards reign, boys who disappear in the middle of the night sometimes return weirdly altered, and escape might just be possible.
The Butterfly Clues
Penelope "Lo" Marin copes with the stress of constantly moving by collecting--sometimes stealing--things from each new place, a habit that has become more compulsive since the death of her brother. Lo finds a butterfly pendant at a flea market she recognizes as something stolen from a recently-murdered girl and begins to piece together clues to find out the truth behind her death.

Try-It! Illinois Returns: FREE Database Trial Period Available Through November 30
Believe or not, now is the time to test out databases with your classes to identify possible purchases for the 2014-2015 school year. Our subscriptions to Pop Culture Universe, Literary Reference Center, Discovering Collection, and Teen Health & Wellness all came from teachers making recommendations to Ann Marie after testing out a new database.
