Message from Food Services

Greetings Tulpehocken Families!

As we gear up for the 22-23 school year the Food Service Department would like to remind families that the USDA waiver allowing school districts to serve free breakfast and lunch to all students regardless of family income has expired.

What does this change mean for families and students?

  1. Breakfast and lunch will still be available to all students; however, the meals will not be free to all students. Families will need to complete the Free & Reduced Lunch Application to qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Students who do not qualify for free or reduced priced meals will be charged full price for breakfast ($1.50) and lunch (Element. $2.65, JSHS $2.90).

How to Apply for Free/Reduced Priced Meals?

  • Fill out the paper application that is send home with your student at the beginning of the year and promptly return it to school

  1. Students must have enough money in their account to cover the cost of extra purchases (ice cream, snacks, extra entrees etc.)
    • To check your student’s account balance, complete a Free & Reduced Lunch Application, or add money to your student’s account, please go to www.schoolcafe.com.
    • Click the link for instructions on creating a school café account for your student:filedownload.ashx (tulpehocken.org)
  2. No student who requests a meal will be denied a breakfast or lunch regardless of account balance, unless the parent or guardian has provided written permission to withhold a school lunch. Notifications will be sent to families when account balances are negative so that funds can be added to student accounts.
  3. All students will enter their Student Number into the PIN Pad. This means students must know their Student Number before the first day of school. Student Numbers can be found in Sapphire near your student’s name. If your student does not know their number, or needs to practice, please work with them so they are ready for the first day of school.

Please contact Ms. Jillian Bergman, Director of Food Services with questions at jbergman@tulpehocken.org or 717-933-4611 X1042.
