Weather Make-Up Days

You should have been notified of the change in the snow make-up day schedule late last week. Saturday, March 16th, 2019 is no longer a make-up day. The second make-up day will now be on Friday, January 18, 2019 -- this Friday will no longer be an early release day and will instead be a full day of school for snow make-up.

For more information, you can visit the OCE page here or the WCPSS page here.

Walk to School Wednesday

Lace up those walking shoes and start the New Year on the right foot!

Walk to School Wednesday is moved to January 9 (instead of our first day back after break!). First grade had the most walkers in October, November AND December, so lucky first graders have continued to win the raffle prizes! Can any other grade beat the first graders?

Through our November and December walks, we donated 24 pounds of toilet paper and macaroni and cheese to Western Wake Crisis Ministry. Thank you for your support of our Apex neighbors!

In January the Apex police and fire departments will join us again. Come on out and start the day with our Apex and OCE community!

Kids Heart Challenge Parent Volunteer Needed

Coach Roberts is bringing Kids Heart Challenge to OCE this year and needs a parent volunteer to help. The fundraiser for the American Heart Association will run from January 28 - March 8th. The parent coordinator would need to meet with the AHA rep the second week of January.

If you are interested in helping Coach Roberts or would like more information on what the role will entail, please contact

Clipper Coffee

New to Olive Chapel? Joined in the middle of the school year and playing catch-up on terms like Clipper Cash and Growth Mindset? Join a group of veteran parents for coffee and ask all your questions.

The group meets occasionally so check the sign-up and join us - our next meet-up is Wednesday, January 9th, 2019! Whether you're old or new, it's always nice to have a cup of coffee with fellow OCE parents.

Campus Beautification Projects

If you are handy with a paint brush, hammer and nails, or just willing to give a few hours of hard labor for a few campus beautification projects, please let us know so we can make some plans for a few future projects.

If you are interested, please reach out to Mandy Wagstaff at for more information.

Help Needed: Grandparents Breakfast

We are still looking for a parent coordinator for the Tracks 2 & 4 Grandparents Breakfast taking place on March 28th.

The task involves a little bit of coordination before and availability the morning of for set-up and clean-up. A team of volunteers will be recruited to assist in set-up/clean-up. It's an easy, one time position

If you are interested in helping with this position, please email for more information.

Food 4 Kids is Coming!

The Olive Chapel Elementary Food 4 Kids program will provide a weekend supply of nutritious food for children when school lunch and breakfast is unavailable over the weekend. Each food bag will contain 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 snacks, and 1 can of vegetables and 1 can of fruit. All food is nonperishable and provided to children FREE of charge. It is our hope these resources will support the health, behavior and achievement of every student that participates.

The program will be run by KidsCorps and wonderful volunteers who will help pack back packs each week. The program will be funded through school food drives and community donations.

Be on the lookout for more information about our first Food 4 Kids Food Drive. KidsCorps looks forward to working with staff, teachers and you for your children!
