196. BALTIMORE COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY (BCPL) TEACHER LOAN LIBRARY CARDS AND TEACHER COLLECTIONS
As part of the BCPS/BCPL partnership and SAIL (Students Achieve in Libraries) initiative, the BCPL offers teacher loan library cards for Baltimore County teachers, providing extended loan privileges for classroom materials. Teachers must verify their employment status in order to receive a teacher loan card; the card expires on August 31 of each year and must be renewed. The teacher loan card may only be used for materials to benefit students, and may not be used to borrow personal materials. For the complete guidelines and registration form, see your library media specialist or visit the BCPL teacher loan card Web page at http://www.bcpl.info/kids-teens-parents-teachers/teacher-card.
New this year, educators with a valid teacher loan card can request a teacher collection of up to 30 items related to a specific topic for a six-week loan period. Those interested can simply complete the teacher collection request form at http://www.bcpl.info/kids-teens-parents-teachers/teachercollection, or call in your request to any BCPL branch location. Materials are gathered and packaged by BCPL librarians in a Teacher Collection Crate within a two-week time period for pickup at the designated branch, and may be returned to any branch location.
Additional BCPL services for Baltimore County teachers are available; visit their Teacher Features Web page at http://www.bcpl.info/kids-teens-parents-teachers/teacher-features to learn more.

NEW POLICY 0100, EQUITY
At the September 9, 2014, board meeting, the Board of Education approved the new Policy 0100. This new policy establishes and articulates the Board’s commitment to raising achievement for all students and to closing gaps as a result of disparities on the basis of race, special education status, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, English language learner status, or socio-economic status. The policy also employs the term "advanced academics," which is considered the more modern reference to what was formerly termed "gifted and talented" and "advanced placement." The policy is available on the BCPS’s Web site at http://www.bcps.org/system/policies_rules/policies/0000Series/POL0100.pdf.
