Butterfly School News - February 2020
You are your child's first teacher. Let your child witness many different ways of being kind to others. Kindness is one of the fruits of the spirit mentioned in Galatians 5:22. Children learn by example and the most consistent influence is their parent. Make a point to demonstrate random acts of kindness with your children, perhaps pay for someone's coffee or help someone carry their groceries. Carry "blessing bags" in your car to hand out to need people on the street or buy a few inexpensive but warm fleece blankets and hand out on cold days to those out to those on the street. One simple act of unexpected kindness can have a tremendous impact and totally change a persons day!

Chapel Chat -Ms. Chris
In January we heard Bible stories about obeying . Noah obeyed God and built an Ark and God promised not to flood the earth again with a rainbow. Children made their own arks and colored them in art class. In February we will be hearing Bible stories about being strong and courageous with God's help. Children will be reminded of God's love for them through David and Goliath and Daniel in the Lion's Den. We continue to use songs and activities to bring our bible stories to life! This month's Bible Memory Verse is Joshua 1:9 “Be strong and courageous ".
Musical Moments! Ms. Deborah
May your heart be filled with LOVE as we go into February! Music will be full of songs about Love, Friends, and Family. The Toddlers, 2s, and 3s will keep working on rhythm, tempo, and dynamics as we move through our songs. The 3s will also talk about P is for percussion, Q is for Quartet, R is for Rhythm, and S is for Strings (we will try to play a violin). The Pre-K classes have had a GREAT start to identifying notes, rests, and their values. This month we will be focusing on the music staff and note names. Lot’s of brain work put into learning the symbols of music! Thank you for all your love and support!
Amazing Artists at Butterfly School! -Ms. Jennifer
In art class we learned about a new artist Piet Mondrian and his use of primary colors and geometric elements. The Piet Mondrian snowman was one of the examples that the students exhibited his works. In February, we will focus on a new artist Jim Dime and his use of hearts in his artwork.
Spanish! Ms. Sandra
Hola amigos! In February we will begin working on los números . We will have lots of fun with a new song for los números, along with a new song with los colores y los números. It is such a joy to watch my friends learn more Spanish!
Movement Matters -Ms. Kayli
This month in P.E. we will be playing Valentine's themed games and practicing our gross motor skills! Learning to work together through cooperative games makes learning and exercising fun for young children! We will be doing yoga to teach children balance and improve strength throughout the entire body. P.E. is sure a fun time here at Riverside Butterfly School!
Super Sign Language -Ms. Luella
Happy Valentines! For February the threes will be leaning signs for I, V, R, X, pink, six, and signs from the unit Love. The fours will be learning signs for V, H, L, G, pink, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty and signs from the unit Valentine’s Day/Fairy Tales. We will also learn about Ludwig Van Beethoven. And we will learn the chapel Bible verse for February with signs. As we think about February and the theme of Love, I am so grateful God so loved the world that He gave His only Son!
Pictures are us playing ‘Teacher May I.’ The children line up at the back of the room, as I sign words to them and they correctly guess they move different steps to the front of the room.
Library- Ms. Lee
In February we're going to enjoy the literature of Eric Carle. Eric Carle is a wonderful author, illustrator, and designer known for his children's books. The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Grouchy Ladybug, and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? are some of his most popular books. We'll be reading these and others this month along with stories that reflect classroom themes. The threes and I will enjoy Valentine's Day stories and I'll share fairy tales from around the world with the fours. Thanks for helping your child to return their books each week. I'm so proud of the Butterfly students and the excellence they're showing in the library.
Sensational Science- Ms. Tracy
In science this month we will be learning how different surface textures effect the distance a marble will roll, chemical reactions while baking and states of matter with water, ice, and steam.
Coding Kids- Ms. Susan
We will be adding coding mats to our class this month. It is a grid that will help learners develop a greater sense of space, distance and direction while coding the BeeBot to reach a specific square. They will be able to look at an area and find different ways they can code to reach that area.
"Children learning code will need to take a vague idea and use their creativity to turn it something effective. If the first solution doesn’t work, they try another one. If that one doesn’t work, they try again until the problem is solved. Coding helps to develop this way of thinking and these types of thinking skills are highly sought after."
