A Note from Mrs. Schneider

Dear Woodland Families,

On Monday, in seat students will return to school four full days a week. Placement letters were emailed to all families this morning. Please check your email. As we make this transition to both AM and PM students attending all day, it is important that we review some protocols that will make the transition a little easier.

Because we will be doubling the number of cars in the drop off and pick up lines, please remember to stay in your cars and pull as far forward as possible. Students should be prepared to immediately get out of the vehicle. Please make sure they are awake, done eating, have them unbuckled and have all of their belongings ready to exit the vehicle. Students should not wait for an adult to open their car doors. Ivy, our Clean Ed staff person, will continue to check your Clear to Go as you are in line. Students may begin to exit the vehicle at 8:27am. During parent pick up, please post your green car tag where we can see it. We should be able to load 11 to 12 cars at a time, but to do that, we need to be able to see the car tag with number. We will be having all students line up outside for dismissal. We will call 1-2 rows of cars for dismissal, then a bus, then more cars, then a bus, and so on. We hope this will limit the line up on Livernois. Please, if your child can ride a bus, it will be super helpful.

All students will be going out to recess daily, so please dress accordingly. Also, please label ALL students’ belongings. I would recommend sending in a second mask to keep in their backpack.

Breakfast and lunch are FREE for all students this year. If you want to pack your child a lunch, that is fine, but please label the lunch box and make sure that your child is able to independently open all of the items that you send in. We are a peanut/tree nut free school. This means no peanut butter or Nutella sandwiches. It would be really helpful if you practiced this over the weekend!

To our families whose students are remaining remote, your child's schedule will be different due to changes that needed to be made to the specials schedule. Teachers will be sending out updated schedules later today, so please be on the lookout for those.

Thank you to everyone that has volunteered to help and feed us as we worked late into the evening to make this happen. I know that there were a lot of changes especially in our remote classes as students moved back into the building. Please continue to be patient with us as we work out the kinks.

Enjoy your weekend,

Arryn Schneider

Cafeteria and Hot Lunch

Breakfast and lunch will be served in the cafeteria. We are able to safely fit up to 50 students sitting 6 feet apart at desks.

*Students who need to eat breakfast at school will come in the front doors and go directly to the cafeteria and eat. They will then return to class as soon as they are done.

Your child may bring their lunch or order a hot lunch in the morning. We are a PEANUT/NUT-FREE school. This means NO peanut butter and jelly or Nutella sandwiches, candy bars or granola bars that contain or may contain nuts of any kind. If a lunch assistant identifies that a nut product has been brought in, we will dispose of the item and make sure your child has a lunch. You will also receive a reminder slip.

If your child's teacher is planning a snack time, you will need to send in a small, healthy snack that does not require a spoon or fork. With the additional students in each class, we are not able to eat snack in the classroom (except TK) since we can't create 6-8 feet between students.

Quick and Easy Nut-free Snacks

  • Goldfish, Cheez Its, Pretzels
  • Cheese sticks
  • Grapes, apple slices, watermelon chunks, banana (as long as your child can open)
  • Veggies

Woodland Bus Stop Schedule

There are a few bus stop times that have changed due to the elimination of Bus 19, so please see below or check the Avondale website for Woodland's updated bus stop schedule.

Please have students at the bus stop at least 10 minutes prior to their bus stop time. Students must be visible and not sitting in a car or standing on a porch. Also, make sure that you or your child shows their Clear To Go and they must wear a mask to ride the bus.

CDC Travel Guidelines For Spring Break

As our Spring Break, scheduled for March 29 - April 2, gets closer, we wanted to connect with you to share important information related to international travel and COVID-19. We are asking all students and staff members to follow the Centers for Disease Control recommended guidelines for international travel this year.

1. Families are asked to inform their school principal if their spring break travel plans include international travel.

2. Students must get tested 3-5 days after travel AND stay home and self-quarantine for seven calendar days following travel.

3. Even with a negative COVID test, students are mandated to stay home and self-quarantine for seven calendar days.

4. Prior to returning to school, students must provide a negative COVID test result dated a minimum of 2 days after returning to Michigan.

Thank you for partnering with us in our continued work to provide a safe environment for our students and staff.

Happy Birthday!!

Happy Birthday to our Woodland Friends! Don't forget to take a picture in front of our electronic sign in front of the school!

P2-#Other People Mindset

This week, we focused on Love of Learning. Love of learning means that you master new skills and topics on your own or in school. Those with a love of learning are intrinsically motivated and engaged in a topic regardless of achieving an external standard. They enjoy learning simply for the sake of learning. They don’t need a prize or a high grade as a reward. Their reward is the process of doing the work and improving.

People who love learning experience positive feelings in the process of acquiring skills, building on existing knowledge, or learning something completely new. Over time, individuals with this strength may develop deep and wide knowledge. Their knowledge enables them to make significant contributions to others’ understanding.

New Absence Call In Needs

Please DO NOT send your child to school if:

  • They have had a fever within the last 24 hours
  • They have vomited or had diarrhea within the last 24 hours

If your child will be late or not attending school, please call the attendance line directly @ 248-537-6910 before 9am. The attendance line is available to call 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. On your message, leave your child's name and teacher, your name, and the reason for the absence including symptoms.

  • If your child has 1 High Risk symptom or 2 Low Risk symptoms, we will be recommending a COVID test. If the COVID test is negative or you visit your doctor and get a doctor's note that says the child is sick for another reason, your child may return to school when they are symptom free for 24 hours.
  • If you choose not to get a COVID test or the doctor does not issue a note, students will need to remain at home for the 10 day quarantine.

High Risk--new cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, new loss of taste or smell

Low Risk--fever (100.4 or higher), chills, muscle aches, headaches, sore throat, fatigue, diarrhea (2 times in 24 hours), nausea or vomiting (2 times in 24 hours), congestion/runny nose

No Birthday Treats Please!

This is a reminder that we are a NUT-FREE school, as we have several students with a severe allergy to nuts and nut products. This means that all nuts and nut products (peanuts and tree nuts) may not be present in any room at any time including the school day and all before and after school activities/events. This includes items that may contain nut products or are processed on equipment that also processes nuts or nut products. Please remember to read ingredient labels carefully knowing that any exposure to nuts or nut products through contact or ingestion could cause a severe, life-threatening reaction in several of our students. It is also critical to send products to school in their original containers or to clearly label bulk items in baggies as being “safe” so that we know they have been checked at home.

Because of our nut-free policy, any birthday celebrations will only include non-edible treats (i.e., pencils, stickers, trinkets, etc.) to share with the class, or a favorite book to read with the class. Other ideas include donation of: a book for the classroom in honor of the child’s special day, a recess game for indoor recesses, or a piece of playground equipment (various balls or games) for outdoor recesses. If treats are sent to school, we will not be able to serve them in the classroom or send them home with students.

Medication At School

If your student needs medication throughout the school day or in case of emergency, please make sure that your doctor has filled out an updated "Permission Form for Prescribed Medication" form and turn it into the Main Office. All medication must be stored in our clinic. If you are in need of a new form, you can locate it on the school website or you can contact Mrs. Scrase or Mrs. Montano in the Main Office.
