The Pershing Elementary Newsletter

Principal Message

Good Morning Pershing Families,

It is so hard to believe, but we only have 11 days of school left for the 2020-2021 school year! Let's make every day count and have fun while we wrap up this year together!

This Monday, May 24th, following Kindergarten's Alphabet Countdown, is Pajama Day for the letter P! All students and staff are invited to wear their PJs to school (along with proper shoe attire for school and following school dress codes).

Tuesday is "Quiet Day" for the letter Q, so we will use quiet voices (and parents will enjoy 2.5 of quiet hours while kids are at school!).

Wednesday is "Rainbow Day" for the letter R - wear as many bright colors as possible!

Thursday is "Silly Sock Day" for the letter S.

Friday is "T-shirt Day" - wear Pershing shirts or Green/Gold!

iReady Diagnostic Assessments:

Parents, please check in with your child to see if he or she has finished both the language arts and math assessments. For more information, please review this letter about the iReady Assessments that will replace state testing this spring. The window to complete the iReady tests for 3rd through 6th grade ends Friday, May 28th.

Preschool, Kindergarten, TK, and 6th grade enrollments: During this time of year, Human Resources and San Juan Central coordinate our projected numbers with enrollment numbers for next year to determine staffing for classroom teachers. With that information, our school is given an allocation of teachers per grade level. Our school will be open full day, 5 days a week next year. The first day of school is Thursday, August 12th. If you are aware of families who have not yet registered for Kindergarten, or another grade, but they intend to have their child at Pershing, please encourage them to enroll immediately online or in person at San Juan Central. If they wait too long, students may stay on a waiting list and not have a space at our school because the District must plan in advance for teacher assignments. Please visit the SJUSD Enrollment page here to register and enroll today.

San Juan Unified School District is now registering children for FREE PRESCHOOL for the 2021-2022 school year; Full-Day/Part-Day and Infant Toddler programs. Please visit for Registration information.

Parking and Dismissal: Parents, please be sure when parking in the neighborhood of our school that you do not block any driveways or secondary driveways at all. We have had a few complaints last week about parents blocking part or all of driveways. This can lead not only to added frustration for the neighbors of our school, but could be a safety issue in an emergency, and could lead to a hefty fine! Thank you for your cooperation.

If you have any questions, please reach out to our office at 916-979-8076. Thank you! We could not do this without your partnership! Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Kendra Shelton
