Back to School Information
WELCOME
Hello Families,
Welcome back to the 2020-2021 school year! We are so excited to have all our students and families back for another school year! This year will be unique and give us all the opportunity to grow and learn together. Based on the Fargo Public Schools Smart Restart Plan, we will begin the school year in Level 3--Hybrid Instruction. Please read the following information to get up to date with how school will look starting this school year.
Class rosters are being balanced to reflect close to 50% of students attending on an alternate schedule. Group 1 will be attending Mondays and Tuesdays and alternate Wednesdays. Group 2 will be attending Thursdays and Fridays and alternate Wednesdays. Please see the calendar below for the Level 3--Hybrid Instruction group schedule.
Group 1 and Group 2 assignments will be mailed out to families.
We will not have a Back to School Night as normal this year. We will have Back to School Assessment times for individual students and their parents. Please watch your mail for your appointment time to be sent out to you.
We will start back to school on Wednesday, September 2nd!
SCHOOL CHANGES
In the Level 3--Hybrid Instruction model, our school day is adjusted to support planning for students on distance learning days.
There will not be morning or after school clubs while we are in Level 3--Hybrid Instruction. Students can come to the building fifteen minutes before school begins and will need to leave for home or daycare immediately after school. The building will be locked until 8:25 a.m. There will be no morning recess or morning supervision outside.
8:25 a.m.-- Students can enter the building
8:40 a.m.-- School starts
2:02 p.m.-- School ends
Students will not be able to be in the building until 15 minutes before the bell and will go right to their classroom. Parents will not be allowed to walk their students in the building on the first day of school. We will have staff guiding students in the building and to their classrooms.
STUDENT GROUPINGS
With the announcement of student groupings, below is a link to the calendar of when Group 1 and Group 2 will be present in the school building.
We will follow this calendar when we are in Level 3--Hybrid Instruction.
GROUP TRANSFER REQUEST
We understand the difficulties families are facing when looking at students attending school only certain days of a week. If you feel your family has a hardship and would like to request a group transfer, please contact the Madison office at 446-5100.
You will need to complete a request form to change your student from one group to another. To be considered for a group change in our first round, you must contact the school before noon on Thursday, August 20th.
To be considered for a group change in our final round, you must contact the school before noon on Thursday, August 27th.
As a reminder, these changes will be made on a first-come first serve basis and we may not be able to accommodate all changes as we need to keep an equal balance of students in Group 1 and Group 2.
PARENTS/GUARDIANS AND VISITORS AT SCHOOL
The Level 3—Hybrid Instruction model will not allow visitors to come to the school.
Parents/Guardians will not be allowed to enter the school building unless it is for a scheduled appointment.
If a parent is picking up a student for an appointment or if a student is ill, we would ask you to call the office when you arrive and wait in your vehicle in the parking lot and a staff member will bring the student to you.
If a parent/guardian wishes to meet with a staff member, please contact the staff member to schedule a meeting time. If a parent/guardian wishes to meet with the Principal, Mr. Olson, please call the office at 446-5100 to schedule a meeting.
GUIDED PRACTICE CENTER
The Fargo Public Schools Guided Practice Center will be offered to select students in grade K-5. The purpose of the Guided Practice Center will be to provide supervision and support to students in completing their distance learning assignments from their classroom teacher.
The first day of the Guided Practice Center will be October 5th for Group 2 and October 7th for Group 1.
The Level 3--Hybrid Instruction model consists of a two-week cycle. Each student would attend in-person instruction on their assigned group days each week (i.e., Group 1: M, T, and alternating W). During level 3, the district will have the Guided Practice Center available to qualifying district families.
The number of slots available in the Guided Practice Center is limited.
Qualifying criteria will be utilized to determine a family’s eligibility to access the Guided Practice Center and its services. Examples of this criteria may include, but are not limited to academic support, social emotional needs, or a family hardship.
Breakfast and lunch will be available for students.
The ratio of students to supervisors will be comparable to onsite instruction in a Level 3--Hybrid Instruction model.
There is no charge for the Guided Practice Center.
Specialized services will not be provided at the Guided Practice Center.
District Transportation will be provided each day. The pick-up and drop off times may be different than the days your child attends their home school.
Students who have selected the FPS Virtual Program will NOT be allowed to attend the Guided Practice Center.
A district survey will be provided to all parents to determine student needs and eligibility. The survey window for the Guided Practice Center is Thursday, August 27th to Tuesday, September 1st, 2020 at 11:59 PM. Families will be notified by Tuesday, September 8th, 2020.
BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE
The YMCA will be providing school-out programming that will complement FPS instructional schedules in Levels 2-5. (www.ymcacassclay.org or 218-259-2326 for scheduling and registration information.)
Here are the specifics for the phases of Level 3--Hybrid Instruction beginning September 2.
- In-person learning – before and after school, the same as usual. After school care will start at the new dismissal time at each building.
- Guided Learning days at Fargo North High School – after school care only.
SCHOOL SUPPLY LIST
- One face mask for each student, one will also be provided by FPS
- A water bottle for students to use during the day
We are asking that parents do their best to get the items on the list. If there are items that cannot be found, like sanitizing wipes, we understand and know the circumstances that are going on currently.
