Noble Gases
By: Anna Becker
The Basics
This group is located in group 18 of the periodic table. They are all odorless, colorless, and monatomic gases. They have low chemical reactivity. They have a full outer shell of electrons.
The Noble Gases Include:
Helium
Neon
Argon
Krypton
Xenon
Radon
and Ununoctium.
Interesting Facts
All of their outer electron circles are filled. Helium has two valence electrons, while the others have eight. Noble gases normally do not combine because of their low reactivity. All the noble gases are found in the atmosphere except helium and radon. Although, those are found in the air.
Uses
Helium- to fill balloons
Neon- advertising signs and lasers
Argon- arc welding and growing crystals
Krypton- photography and signs
Xenon- motion pictures
Radon- treating cancer
Ununoctium- no uses outside basic scientific research
