Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
April 22nd-April 26th
What's Going On This Week
- Ms. Harris' Social Studies: This week we are back to Social Studies and learning all about the battles of the American Revolution. We will also be looking at the Declaration of Independence and the Founding Fathers who formed our country. There will be a quiz over this information on Friday May 3rd. After May 3rd, we will be splitting our Social Studies time with half SS and half Science review for our Science PASS test.
- Mrs. Thurston's/Leonard's/Uhlenhake's ELA and Math: This week in ELA we will start our Poetry unit. We will also start our Spring F&P Testing. This will be a chance for students to show us how much they have grown as readers this year. In math we will continue with our geometry unit reviewing lines and angles. We will start measuring angles with a protractor. Students will also use a protractor to draw angles.
- Ms. Harris' GT ELA and Math: This week in math we will be learning how to draw and measure angles using protractors. Students will be given a protractor to use in class and for homework. I ask that they take care of this tool and return it to class on Friday. In ELA we will start our poetry unit. Students will learn about rhyme scheme, rhythm, and imagery. We will also practice writing poetry by adding in figurative language, such as personification and onomatopoeia. There will be spelling groups this week and spelling tests next week.

From Ms. Macanas:
Hello Parents!
This is my final week in Ms. Harris' classroom! For Ms. Harris' math and ELA class, please review with the students the measurement conversions and geometry vocabulary. The students' Genius Hour projects are wrapping up very nicely, we've given time each week for them to work on this project since the beginning of the year and every week they've added or changed their minds for the better of their projects. We can't wait for you to see it!
I'd like to thank each of you for your amazing students. They're each extremely bright and always render me speechless with their creativity! They will do great in 5th grade and beyond. Thank you for letting me teach them and for all of your support!
Signing off,
Ms. Macanas
