DCSC COVID-19 Parent/Guardian Update
Danville Community School Corporation administration has been working to implement a proactive response to COVID-19. Danville Schools will be conducting eLearning education from March 16-20 and will be closed for spring break from March 23-27. School is tentatively scheduled to resume on March 30, however, this situation is continually evolving and families are encouraged to pay close attention to email communications for updates.
Below we’ve outlined a few things that will be helpful during the next few weeks. If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Administration Office at 317-745-2212.
Building Limitations
Beginning Monday, March 16, all DCSC school buildings will have limited access until otherwise noted. All school activities, including athletic and extra-curricular, will be postponed or canceled after 10 p.m. today. Specifically:
• No students will be allowed in the buildings, with the exception of students who need essential physical technology support. These will be handled on a case by case basis with the technology department and students must have an appointment. (See more below about technology needs.)
• Students should have taken everything they will need for the next two weeks home with them today. If a student forgot an essential item, please call the school’s front office for possible pick-up arrangements from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 16-20.
• Parents/guardians will be allowed in the front office of school buildings on Monday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to pick-up student medications. (See more below about pick-ups days and times for curricular materials and food packages.)
eLearning Curricular Information
DCSC will be conducting eLearning education from March 16 to March 20. There is a possibility of additional eLearning days being added after spring break as conditions warrant. Specifically:
• Students may use the Schoology shortcut on their school-issued device or visit https://danvillein.schoology.com/ to access their account.
• Students should log in using the same username and password they use to login to computers at school. (Please note: logging in as a parent will give you view access but may not allow you to submit assignments. Please utilize the student login for this reason.)
• Navigate to your child's homeroom course (North Elementary) or first class of the day (South, DCMS, DCHS), click on the "eLearning Day" folder to see the directions for completing work for the day.
• Complete this same step for EACH course in a student's schedule. Students at the elementary level will go to the specials class they have on each day of the week. Students at DCMS and DCHS will go through each period of their school day completing work for each class they are scheduled to attend normally following their daily schedule.
• All eLearning work will be posted for students by 9 a.m. daily.
• Teachers will do their best to answer parent/student questions by 3:30 p.m. daily.
• Students will have the week they return from spring break to complete all eLearning work. An extension of this grace period may be granted if additional eLearning days are necessary. We will make every effort to ensure all students can complete their work in this timeframe.
• Parents/guardians without access to a device or wifi may request paper materials, if they are available, by 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, via email or phone to the appropriate school’s front office. If requested, these materials must be picked up on Thursday, March 19, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the appropriate school’s front office. Please note that not all classes will be able to provide physical materials for each assignment. If assignments can only be completed virtually, they will be completed once students return to school during the five-day window.
• If you have any trouble with the content in a class, please contact your child's teacher. With questions about accounts or general questions about the eLearning Days, you are welcome to reach out to Director of Academic Services Morgan Walker directly. Her email address is mwalker@danville.k12.in.us.
Technology Support
Students needing Chromebook support from our Technology Department may email ssc@danville.k12.in.us starting Monday, March 16. These email requests will be answered as soon as possible between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. during the week of March 16-20. More involved technical issues that require a student to bring their device in for physical support will be conducted by appointment only arranged with DCSC technology personnel.
Little Warrior Learning Center and PACE
While DCSC schools are conducting eLearning education from March 16-20, the Little Warrior Learning Center Preschool and the PACE before- and after-school program will be closed. Both programs will also be closed during spring break. They are tentatively scheduled to reopen along with DCSC schools on March 30.
Food Service Meal Packages
Many students depend on DCSC for meals. To continue that support, our food services department will be providing breakfast and lunch packages for any DCSC student in need.
• These packages will contain five breakfast meals and five lunch meals for the week. Food will be distributed on Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. from a school bus located outside of the Danville Community High School main entrance at door 1. This process will be conducted drive-thru style, with parents/guardians remaining in their vehicle and following the directional signs to pull up and receive the packages.
• Breakfast will be various shelf-stable items with fruit and milk. Lunch will be ham, turkey and cheese sandwiches with sides and milk or peanut butter and jelly Uncrustables with sides and milk.
• Student name and grade will be recorded at pick-up for possible reimbursement from the state. Parents/guardians may only pick up meal packages for their child.
• If parents/guardians cannot make this pick-up time, they will be asked to call the Danville Community High School front office (317-745-6431) and arrange a pick-up time. Additional food packages will be available there from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 16-20 if you miss the initial pick-up date and time.

K-Kids Crayon Initiative
K-Kids will be collecting crayons for The Crayon Initiative. These crayons will be collected, sent to the Crayon Initiative, melted, and then created into new crayons and distributed to children's hospitals across the US. How great is that?! This will continue through May and our North friends will be joining us in collecting as well.
Students are encouraged to clean out their desks and put any broken or old crayons in the Crayon Initiative boxes in their classroom throughout the rest of the year.
