Dear Families

QCESR

The review concluded last term on the 15th of June and was highly successful. Staff, P & F, School Council and students were interviewed, we have received the report back this week and would like to share the below paragraph.

St Emilie’s Catholic Primary School has proven itself to be a nurturing, welcoming environment and exemplifies the ideal Catholic school. Its members are respected, cared for, challenged and provided with opportunities to celebrate their growth. The school is a gift to its community and an excellent example of a Catholic school in the broader CEWA system.

This is a great credit to the staff, students, P & F, School Council, community and particularly Tania Thuijs who has led the school so well for almost 11 years. Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing some more information from the review.

Family Breakfast & VIP Experience at House Athletics Carnival

The family breakfast will be held on Friday 2nd September at school. Please see the note below for more details. For the first time ever, there will be a raffle offering a VIP experience at the House Athletics Carnival on the school oval on Friday 16th of September. Our P & F are an amazing team so please support the breakfast and the VIP experience.

Year 2 Assembly

Thank you to our Year Two students and staff for their assembly this morning. The Assembly was creative and innovative. The students presented their learning about animals and Information Reports as 'breaking news'. There was even a live cross to the zoo itself. Congratulations to the Year 2 Team and the students on a fun and informative Assembly.

OSH Bake Sale

The team from our OSH Club are organising a bake sale fundraiser for the Red Nose Appeal. Next Friday the 19th of August they will be set up outside the admin building in the morning before school and in the OSH area after school, we encourage as many families as possible to support this Community Project.

Confirmation Workshops

Thank you to our Year 6 families who attended the Confirmation parent/child workshops this week. Cordelia Nicholas, the presenter from the Catechist Team at CEWA was impressed with the attitude and willingness to participate fully in the workshop from all families who attended.

I just wanted to say thank you for the very warm welcome that I have received over the last two days. I really appreciated the assistance received from the school leadership team, parish catechists and the classroom teachers.

Feast of the Assumption

On Monday 15th August the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On this Feast, Catholics traditionally celebrate Mary going to heaven. The tradition is that 'God took Mary, body and soul, to heaven after her life on earth had come to an end'. There will be Mass at the church at 6pm on Monday the 15th August, all are welcome to attend.

Respecting Agreed Start and Finish Times

A gentle reminder that supervision starts at 8.20am, so no child should be dropped off before that time. This is also the case at the end of the school day, supervision concludes at 3.20pm, and all children should be picked up by that time. Thank you for your cooperation.

Positive COVID Cases

If your child tests positive to COVID, please ensure that you enter the result on the CEWA portal and also on the Health Department.

Weeks 1-5 = LOVE

Our Year 5 students share some wise and thoughtful words as to what Love looks, like, sounds like and feels like.

We couldn't have said it better ourselves.

Love looks like fresh pink flowers blossoming on a tree.

It sounds like calm relaxing music on a piano.

It feels like a warm bed on a cold wintery night.

Love smells like a warm apple pie fresh from the oven.

Love tastes like a warm hot chocolate at early morning.

By Xavier

Love looks like hearts filling me up.

I hear laughter, compliments and hummingbirds.

Love feels like warm and fuzzy cuddles.

I smell fresh roses, flowers and the sea breeze.

Love tastes like a yummy sweet that just came out of a lolly jar.

Love is wonderful.

By Isabella

Love looks like warm hugs, as warm as a campfire, helping people through the challenges in their life and helping them to understand and care for others not just in your family.

Love sounds like your favourite melodies that make you feel safe and calm. Love sounds like kind, encouraging words and laughter. If you listen carefully you may hear a violin playing softly and calmly in the background with a piano.

Love feels like a warm fireplace on a freezing winter night, it is a warm feeling in your heart and soul. It also feels like a cloud or warmness wrapped around your body.

Love smells like roses growing wildly on a bush, marshmallows in your warm drink, strawberries and raspberries growing in your garden.

By Leo

Love looks like a big smile stretching from ear to ear.

It sounds like a shower of compliments that could fill the room.

Love feels like a big warm hug that makes you feel fuzzy inside.

Love smells like fresh flowers filled with love just for you.

Love tastes like a cup of hot chocolate made with amazing positive energy to get you through the day.

By Tiffany

COVID

COVID-19 SYMPTOMS POST INITIAL POSITIVE RESULT

When an individual receives a COVID-19 positive result, the individual is deemed by WA Health unlikely to suffer from re-infection for a period of 4 weeks. Therefore, further Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) testing when subsequently unwell is not required during this time, as a COVID-19 positive result may be returned throughout this period while the initial virus is being shed.

However, where a person is unwell within their 4-week period and are showing symptoms of COVID-19, WA Health reiterate that the impacted person should remain home until symptoms subside, particularly where symptoms are respiratory in nature (e.g. productive cough).

All unwell COVID-19 symptomatic students should remain home and refrain from coming to school.

25th Aug (7pm- 8pm): Family & Domestic Violence

About Barbara Blayney, who is presenting both the workshops:

Barbara joined the Archdiocese of Perth as Acting Director in 2022. Safeguarding Aim

The Safeguarding Program aims to raise awareness of our collective responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and vulnerable adults within the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth. The program is based on a fundamental belief that all children and vulnerable adults have the right to physical and psychological safety at all times. We aim to prevent harm within parishes and agencies by building a culture that promotes safeguarding, putting the needs and welfare of children and vulnerable adults first. We aim to ensure our church workers are informed and willing to commit to safeguarding our children and vulnerable adults. We aim to provide policy and practice to create a safe environment and where there is an avenue of responding appropriately to any concerns, complaints, or allegations of harm. http://safeguarding.perthcatholic.org.au/
