Speed Reader
What to do when your reader is reading too quickly
Strategies for a Speed Reader
Here are a few strategies we employ in the classroom-
-Pointing
Using their finger to point to each word helps students track their reading, avoid skipping or misreading words, and slows their pace. As your reader progresses, they will gradually and naturally diminish their use of this strategy, however, pointing is a great multi-purpose strategy for beginning readers.
-Rereading
When students' quick reading results in skipped words or inability to comprehend what they have read, asking them to "reread" and "see if that makes sense" often cues them to an error and their reread will often be done with more caution.
