Weekly Community Updates - December 23, 2022
Dear Students and Families,
Today was the last day of our first semester. We are officially half way through the school year. I hope students and staff get a well-deserved time off during the winter break. I also hope people can spend time with their loved ones and just enjoy one another.
We look forward to seeing everyone on January 9th when we return. Please be sure to have your student take their COVID test before they return to school on Monday.
Have a happy new year!
Take care,
Maritza Torres
COVID Tests
Similar to the Thanksgiving Break, rapid antigen tests will be sent home with all students and staff to take at the end of this year's winter break. Students and staff are asked to take one test on Sunday, January 8 or the morning of Monday, January 9 prior to returning to campus, and again on Wednesday, January 11, during the first week back.
Something to note: Many have asked if they can use FDA-authorized at-home COVID diagnostic tests that have expired. Though the FDA does not recommend using these tests beyond their authorized expiration dates, diagnostic tests may be extended as additional stability data is collected. You can check the Expiration Date column of the List of Authorized At-Home OTC COVID-19 Diagnostic Tests to see if your at-home OTC COVID-19 test has been extended and how to find any new expiration date.
Early Release/Late Start applications for seniors are OPEN!
Applications are available for students outside of Ms. Owyang's office in the counseling hall. We encourage students and families to please read through the criteria thoroughly.
Applications are due FRIDAY, JANUARY 13TH AT 3:15PM. NO EXCEPTIONS.
For any questions, please contact Ms. Owyang at aowyang@jeffersonunion.net
Attached is the application and criteria.
Club Announcement
Students are allowed to charter a new club during the week of January 16th. Every student is limited to chartering one club, and must submit a physical club handbook by January 20th. For any questions or clarifications, please contact Chloe May (8016637@jeffersonunion.net).

Winter Wellness Resources
Academic Council is the shared governance body at OHS that is responsible for policies and decision-making. AC is made up of students, teachers, parents, and administrators. We meet each week on Thursday from 3:20-5:20 pm in Room 207. Meetings are open to all OHS community members. So that everyone is in-the-know, we also share weekly meeting summaries here. Hope to see you at a future AC meeting!
