What is the cause of this Disease?

Cryptosporidium is a microscopic parasite and it causes Cryptosporidiosis a diarrheal disease. It is also called Crypto. It is both a parasite and disease.

How does this Disease get transmitted?

This parasite can be spread many different ways. The most common method it uses for transmission is by water including drinking water and recreational water. It can be found in things such as soil , food , water or surfaces that have been in contact with this disease. People can also get this disease by accidentally ingesting something that has been in contact with this parasite. The infected host sheds the Crypto parasite through their stool.

What are some symptoms of the disease?

Some symptoms of Crypto are Stomach cramps, Dehydration, Nausea, Vomiting, Fever, Weight loss, and the most common symptom is watery diarrhea. Some people with Crypto may not experience any symptoms at all. People who do experience symptoms they will typically last for up to two weeks.

How can this disease be treated?

Some treatments or medications for Crypto are Anti-parasitic drugs, Anti-motility agents, Fluid replacements, and Antiretroviral therapies. A FDA-approved Anti-parasitic drug to treat this disease is Nitazoxanide. People with healthy immune systems will not need any treatment because they can fight off the disease themselves.
