FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S PEN
Tēnā koutou katoa
The school year is very quickly coming to an end; with only two weeks left for our students.
This week has seen a number of exciting and eventful activities taking place. Our Year 9 camp to Lake Waikaremoana ended 24 hours early after heavy rain, wind, thunder and lightning struck where our students were camping. This follows a similar pattern with the Waikaremoana tramp from two weeks ago. The weather in Te Urewera is unpredictable and we are very thankful to the expertise we have in the staff and adults on the trip.
Congratulations to our students who took part in the Tūranganui Schools Māori Cultural festival. It was a very powerful and moving performance.
We also acknowledge the work and participation of staff, students and members of the public in
providing an excellent careers week focus for Year 10 students. I am sure that they are very appreciative of the opportunities provided.
Next week looks to be just as busy with Monday being a Teacher Only Day, Wednesday closing early for a PPTA union meeting for teachers, St Edmund Campion Feast Day, Friday being our Prep Market day and next Sunday our leavers dinner. It’s starting to feel a bit like Christmas.
Ngā mihi nui

UPCOMING CELEBRATIONS
We have a number of important dates approaching, so please mark these in your calendar!
We will celebrate the feast day of St Edmund Campion on Thursday, 1 December, with Mass and an afternoon carnival. Our Year 7 - 10 Prizegiving will be held on Thursday, 8 December, at 1.00 pm in the college gym. On the last day of school, Friday, 9 December, we will have a Christmas Liturgy in the gym at 11.30 am. We hope that you will be able to join us in our celebrations.
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS
For over three decades, Lions clubs around the globe have been sponsoring a very special art contest in schools and youth groups. Creating peace posters gives children everywhere the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity. Year 8 student, Catalina Camero, entered this year's competition after placing second in New Zealand with her entry last year. The 2022 - 2023 Contest Theme was "Lead with Compassion." Catalina used acrylic paint and black ballpoint pen to create her poster. She wanted to convey the message that every person can lead the way through compassion. Catalina was very surprised to learn she had won not only the regional but also the national competition. She acknowledges that there are many talented artists out there. Catalina's poster now goes forward to be judged against the best posters from the Australian & Asia Pacific regions. We wish Catalina all the best in the next stage of the competition.
We love to hear about and celebrate our students' achievements.

Our annual Leavers’ Dinner will be held on Sunday 4th December 2022 at the Bushmere Arms. Students leaving the secondary school system and parents are invited to this official function which is the last formal occasion on which the group meets. It is a requirement that all students attend with at least one parent.
The cost is $55.00 per person and tickets can be purchased through KINDO by Wednesday 30
November 2022.
Guests are welcome to arrive at 6.30pm for informal gathering and drinks, with the
official function starting at 7.00pm. In the past this evening has been most enjoyable for parents, students and staff attending. It is an opportunity to meet with and farewell our senior students as they embark on the next phase of their lives.
