Much Ado About Nothing

Comparing The Notebook and Much Ado about Nothing

We chose to compare The Notebook to Much Ado about nothing because it also shows examples of Heartbreak of Betrayal. In the attachment below, Noah is breaking up with Allie and she is in denial that he's doing such a thing. Noah is thinking that their relationship isn't going to work out but Allie is begging him that it can work out. Noah decides to just walk away and let her beg all she wants. In the end Allie is left alone wondering if Noah would forgive her for asking him to leave. We're comparing this scene to Act 4, Scene 1 where Claudio is asking Leonato to take back Hero because she is no longer pure or innocent. He insults her by comparing her to Venus, a extremely hot and unstable planet.

So what happened?

Allie comes back years after their breakup and finds Noah once again. At first it's just all about the last time they saw each other but then it's as if nothing had kept them apart. It's back to the amazing times they had when they were younger.

When it's revealed that Hero is innocent and pure, Claudio is able to forgive Hero and apologize for thinking she will do such a thing. He is still and will always be in love with his Hero.

Why The Notebook?

Our group had decided to select The Notebook because it wasn't all just about love. It also had heartbreak and tragic turns of events. You'd think you have a forever with the person you are in love with but it didn't turn out that way. It's either distance holding you both apart or it's someone. OR even something.

After all that's happened, that gap does not keep you apart. Maybe if your lucky you'd end up like Noah and Allie or Hero and Claudio.
