HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 4 Week 7 November 29 2019
FROM MARK
Dear Parents and Guardians
A great faction swimming carnival was followed by an awesome canteen thank you party - What a Monday!
Rob Flexman again was organised to the nth degree. Thank you Rob and thank you to everyone – and there were many – who helped make this carnival such a good one for the children. And the children were fabulous! Cheering on their friends and supporting their faction always makes days like these so much fun!
Keyed Up Music concerts ran after school this week with many of our children learning musical instruments strutting their stuff. Congratulations to them and to the team from Keyed Up Music for allowing the children this opportunity.
Thank you Leanna for arranging such an awesome party for your helpers. I hear that people had a great night! I think it is fair to say that people genuinely enjoy being part of the canteen community, due in no small measure to Leanna’s wonderfully upbeat nature. Everyone who joins canteen has plenty of fun there!
Today’s ‘Get to know you day’ where children spent time this morning with their 2020 teachers went really well. It was so good to have our new teachers Kaitlin (Year One), Liz (Year Two) and Ashleigh (Year Five) join us. I thank them for being so keen to be a part of today. This is such an enjoyable time when teachers and children meet each other and start to set the scene. It plays a part in a smooth and informed start to the following year.
Concert Season starts next week with the Three Year Old Kindy gang on Thursday and the Siena gang on Friday. These will be just the best!
Have a great weekend

Orders are delivered in 48 hours to Metro areas.
There will be sample sizes available at school if you are unsure of the size you need.
Exchange Policy - Permapleat
If you accidentally order the wrong size, you can send the product/s back with the Exchange Product Form to Perm-A-Pleat Schoolwear and we will post to you free of charge your exchange order. Unfortunately we are not able to offer a credit on your purchase.
The Uniform Shop will be open for the last time on Monday 9th December.
BUDDY CONCERT – WOW!!
Last week’s Buddy Concert was a remarkable success. Performed in the gym by children for children, led by Music Teacher Michele Kirwan it really was a great celebration of community, of friendship, of music. Each item was performed by the two grades aligned as buddies for this year, making for four classes per performance. Here are two short clips which we hope you enjoy..
GRANDPARENTS DAY
St Vincent de Paul Christmas Hampers
Christmas for many of us is a time of happiness and celebration as we gather with our family and friends sharing meals, laughing and chatting as we open presents, however, for people experiencing poverty and disadvantage Christmas can be a challenging time. The Vinnies
Christmas Appeal encourages the community to rethink their priorities at Christmas time by helping to give joy and hope to those who need it most.
We are seeking your support through the donation of non-perishable food items. This will enable us to provide families and individuals who turn to St Vincent de Paul over this period with Christmas hampers so they too can share in the joy of Christmas.
Suggested items:
- Christmas cakes/puddings/cookies/mince pies
- Chocolates/candies/nuts/ snacks/ nibbles
- Christmas stockings for children
- Soft drinks/juices
- Long life milk
- Tinned ham/fish/fruit/vegetables
- Jams/honey/pickles
- Bon Bons/crackers
- Baby products
All items will be collected in each classroom and donated to St Vincent de Paul at our final whole school mass on Friday, 13th December.
2019 Holy Rosary Swimming Carnival
All of our Year 3 – 6 students headed off to HBF stadium for the Holy Rosary Swimming carnival on Monday.
The tunes by D.J Lachie and D. J Levi set the tone for the day which was about celebrating a love of the water and doing our best. Lots of smiles on the day were accompanied by some brilliant times and performances.
In the end only 3 points separated first from second with Gold just sneaking over the line with Blue hot on their tales.
I would like say a huge thank you to all of our staff and parents for all chipping in to make the day a success and to everyone who has helped the P.E program this year. It has been a big last term and most importantly a great last term for the children.

SCIENCE
Year 1 investigated how many times they could fold different sized sheets of paper. We found out that all of the sheets could only be folded the same number of times - very strange!
In Year 2 Mrs Skinner showed how you can 'unmix' mixtures - we call this separating. We saw which ingredients would stay in a colander, a sieve and filter paper. This helps separate mixtures
LIBRARY NEWS
Thank you to our Library Monitors and Staff who worked super hard so that everyone could still borrow books while I was away unexpectedly. Thank you to our beautiful community for your well wishes and support upon my recovery and return this week. I can’t believe we are nearing the end of the year and with that, all books are to be returned in library sessions, week 8, next week. Please feel free to pop in to see me for any lost or damaged books in week 8 so that the library can be spick and span for 2020.
