READ ACROSS AMERICA WEEK!
A message from Mrs. Black-
This year, I would like to invite parents from your respective classes to read to your students during their library time. Parents can sign up to read by clicking on this Sign-Up Genius link. Please note that time only allows for 1 parent reader per class.
If a spot is already filled and you would like to be a mystery reader in the classroom please email me separately and we can arrange a time for you to come in.
What's Happening in the Classroom??
- Innovation: Students will continue our Engineering is Elementary unit where they will be learning about and creating a model membrane.
- Language Arts -We will begin our new unit: Making Decisions. Our Essential Question we will focus on is, What Helps us Solve Problems? In this unit students will read and compare folktales from around the world to analyze how characters solve problems. This week students will be focusing on Identifying and summarizing key events in a story. When students read at home each night have them practice summarizing what they have read.
- Math -In math, we are continuing our unit on Fractions. Students will continue to compare fractions and identify equivalent fractions using their flipbooks they created in class.
- Writing - Students will continue to explore the three types of writing: opinion, informational and narrative. Students will be focusing on narrative writing.
- Vocabulary- Students will be able to use reference materials to build their vocabulary. They will show their understanding of the words by using them in a sentence during collaborative conversations and in writing.
- 7 Habits - Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind. Students are setting goals as we move into the last 4 months of the school year! Feel free to ask your child at home, how they want to finish the school year and what their personal goals are.
