Irons Jr. High Newsletter
We Are Hawks!
It has been great to see all of our students back on campus this year! I can see on our student's faces that they have enjoyed the return to athletics, fine arts, cheer, and drill, along with all the outstanding instruction they see in our classrooms. The students have also enjoyed the ability to go outside and spread out for lunch. We continue to look forward to our school dances, open house, and other events throughout the year.
We are very excited that our Hawks Nest intervention time is in full swing. Students who have been identified as needing intervention in Math or Reading will be receiving small group instruction during this time. While in Hawks Nest, students will participate in Reading for a Better Life, homework completion, choice boards, and character development lessons each week. We will have Friday gameday to give students brain breaks from the rigors of school by allowing them to play card games and board games such as Uno and connect four.
A great way to support Irons Jr. High would be to donate new or used games to your child's Hawks Nest teacher.
I know we have had a spike in covid cases, but it looks like we have turned to corner are starting to see a downward trend. We understand and share your concerns about the increase of COVID-19 cases in our community. We continue to recommend and strongly encourage that all employees, students, and families take all precautions necessary to protect one another. Regular hand washing, staying home when sick, and wearing a mask or face covering as appropriate are practices that helped keep our district open last year. Our building and classrooms are also e-misted daily along with being cleaned in accordance with our standard practices.
Prevention of disease transmission in our schools will take all of us working together. Please visit Conroe ISD’s Roadmap to Remaining Open website for updated guidance, COVID-19 testing information, and frequently asked questions.
In accordance with the Texas Education Agency School Health Operations RequirementsPDF effective August 19, 2021, and the guidance from the Department of State Health ServicesPDF, Conroe ISD has updated the COVID-19 mitigation protocols for employees and students. Prevention of disease transmission in our schools will continue to take all of us working together. The best way to prevent the spread of illness in our schools is to stay home when ill. Washing/sanitizing hands often, especially before eating, after using the restroom, blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing, and after coming in contact with highly touched objects such as doorknobs, handrails, etc. can help reduce the spread of illness.
To ensure the health and safety of all students and staff, all individuals should conduct self pre-screening for COVID-19 symptoms. Individuals waiting for COVID-19 test results due to symptoms or individuals currently experiencing any of the symptoms listed that are new and/or not normal for them, should stay home and consider seeking medical care and/or COVID-19 testing. Symptoms consistent with COVID-19 include:
- cough or shortness of breath
- sore throat
- congestion or runny nose
- significant muscle pain or body aches
- loss of taste or smell in the last 10 days
- diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain
- feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0F
As the fourth week of school wraps up, I want to thank you for all you’ve done to support Irons Junior High at the start of the year. We continue to fine-tune routines, procedures, and processes to make the most of each moment with our students. I know that some bus routes have been behind schedule in picking up students and dropping them off. This is due to a variety of factors, including the growth of our District and absences due to COVID-19. We are working closely with our Transportation Department on ways to minimize any delays. I thank you for your understanding and patience during this time.
If your child has been out with covid or other illness and they require make-up work, please reach out to your child's teachers for any missed assignments. We know that lost instruction matters, and we do not want our students to get behind, but the need to keep everyone healthy and safe is a top priority. Just as a reminder, if your child is not sick or showing any symptoms described above, they are clear to come to school even if they may have been around a covid positive person.
We will print the first three weeks' progress reports and send them home with students on 9/3. You will need to use parent access to view progress reports and report cards for the remainder of the year. You can access or create a PAC account at https://www.conroeisd.net/parents/
We will make a few changes to our dismissal procedures for our car riders after Labor Day. In an effort to remove cars from 242 and Needham Road, we will double-file cars as you enter the pickup drive and then merge into a single file line as you enter the curve. We ask that you close up gaps with the car in front of you and only pick up students in the pickup zone.
I will send out a notification reminding everyone of the changes when we are ready to start.
Yearbooks are currently on sale with all the information below.
Did you know that when you sign up for school meal benefits every year that you not only support your family with a needed benefit, but Irons Jr. High also receives increased funding for the school year. Please do not miss out on these available benefits. Applications are due by September 24th and may be completed on-line at https://www.myschoolapps.com/

Academy for Careers in Engineering and Science (ACES)
My name is Mike Papadimitriou (Dr. Pap), and I am the Headmaster at the Academy for Careers in Engineering and Science (ACES) located on the Oak Ridge High School Campus. Students in the Oak Ridge, Grand Oaks, College Park and Woodlands feeder zones are eligible to apply for admission to the Academy at Oak Ridge (ACES) and/or the Academy of Science and Technology (AST) at College Park. Despite the name differences, both academies offer just about the same courses, and we have the same program requirements. The manner in which we fulfill these program requirements varies a bit between academies.
Our application deadline is mid-November. Applications are available on our website. Submissions can be by mail, email, fax or in-person drop off.
For the Academy for Careers in Engineering and Science, we do NOT require any additional testing other than the PSAT 8/9 that all CISD 8th graders take at their junior high schools. If your child is not able to take this test, we will use prior standardized test data already on file.
We have three 8th Grade Parent Information Zoom Nights scheduled:
