Going home today is an envelope about a School Store fundraiser. If they return their envelopes on Monday they will receive a prize. I believe there are many other prizes to be given out depending on their level of involvement. Thanks!
The kids are really settling in to a routine! I have been trying to hand out some sort of incentive or prize on days that they reach at least 5 points on ClassDojo. It seems to be very motivating for them.
On Wednesday, Sept. 14, please have them wear an outfit with dots of some kind on it. We will be reading a book that celebrates each person's unique gifts. We will be going to the library for special activities and crafts from 10:30-11:00. You are welcome to send in a snack of any kind that is a circle shaped to share with the class. Things like Skittles, M and M's, cookies, etc. All must be store bought. Thanks! It will definitely add to the fun of the day.
I hope you are getting in the swing of station, reading fluency and spelling now. I realize the note that accompanied the spelling spoke of a spelling journal. This is not required and I have blacked out that portion of the note. Just help them study those words the way that works best for them. Check out the website Spelling City. If you need ideas for ways to practice, please let me know.
Also, the kids love to share things with the class, kind of like a show and tell. If we have a few minutes at the end of the day, I will allow them to share something personal with the class. This may not happen every day and so they need to understand that it is only when we have a little extra time. They seem to love it and are ok with having to wait until the next day when needed.
Thanks! Have a great weekend!

WHAT WE'VE BEEN LEARNING
Language Arts-The students looked at correct and incorrect sentences again this week. We really looked at punctuation and capitals. They have done lots of writing in their journals and are full of fun ideas! We also did a little more abc order. We took our first spelling test and practiced the procedures for that.
Reading-We read Edward the Emu and focused on predictions. They practiced reading Reader's Theater plays in small groups, partner reading and continued building stamina during Read to Self time. They read a nonfiction booklet about Emu's and did a draw and write activity to go with it.
Science-We looked at the scientific method and the vocabulary that goes with it. We conducted an experiment with gummy bears to practice using the process
