A message from Mrs. Schnabel
Hello Evergreen Families!
We have successfully completed our first month of school. I have been so impressed with the enthusiasm and energy the students have brought into this new school year. In October we have a couple of days off for staff professional development. Please check the calendar carefully!
School Celebrations
As a school we work to ensure all students, staff, and families feel welcomed. We know that we represent a wide range of cultures, religions and beliefs which makes us special! As a school we do not celebrate holidays during class time, however we do celebrate growth in academics and social emotional learning! Each classroom has 3 parties planned at the end of the trimesters (December, March, and June) to recognize the hard work our students are doing each day.
Birthday Treats
As a reminder, we do not accept food treats for birthdays. We have many allergies and other health related concerns in classes and want to ensure that all students are feeling included. If you would like to send something for your child's birthday, consider non food items, or a favorite book donated to the class. This is also listed in our family Handbook that you received at Open House.
Visiting Our Building
As part of district protocol for safety, please bring a valid ID when visiting our building during the school day. We are only able to release students to guardians listed who have proof ID. If there is a time that another adult is picking them up that is not listed as a guardian. Please call the office to give permission.
Inspiration Rock Garden
We have been working to beautify the inner circle of our school. Along with painting and landscaping upgrades, our staff and students are working on a project that reflects themselves and what makes them happy. The rocks they design will be displayed for all to see in our inner court rock garden coming in October!
Purposeful People Character Traits
In October our Character Trait focus is Responsibility! Our staff and students will be learning and engaging in lessons to practice this trait in our daily lives. Each month you will receive a new fridge magnet for the trait with discussion questions you can use at home to participate!
Fall Conferences
Soon you will receive information on how to sign-up for fall conferences with your child's teacher. It is so important that our teaching staff and families connect to set goals at the beginning of the year so we can continue to work together towards growth. This fall conferences will fall on the 12th and the 17th. Both in person and virtual options will be available.
Parent Press
With school, comes responsibility. In October's Parent Press, we discuss the importance of responsibility and how to build your child's independence.

Real-time bus information through FirstView app
Anoka-Hennepin families can check where their bus is — live — through a transportation app, called FirstView. The app monitors regular school bus routes in real-time. Best of all, it’s free for parents/guardians and students to use.
While Anoka-Hennepin buses have a tremendous on-time performance record, there are inclement weather and traffic delays that do occur. This app provides families the necessary information to know when their bus will arrive. Families can also see the anticipated length of any delay, an estimated arrival time and if a substitute is driving the route. Email, push and/or text notifications can inform families of such information instantly.
FirstView can be downloaded from app stores (iTunes app store; Android Google Play store). On-screen directions walk first time users through the easy setup process:
- Choose Minnesota and then Anoka-Hennepin from the dropdown menus.
- Log in with your parent/guardian username and password once directed to A-HConnect (if you’ve forgotten your parent/guardian username or password, please call 763-506-HELP).
The app will then automatically populate your student’s information. It’s that easy!
Health and Wellness
When should my child stay home from school?
Many students and parents are frequently concerned about when students should stay home or attend school. The following information is intended to help with this decision.
General practice:
- If a student has had a fever of 100 degrees or more, the student must stay home for 24 hours after the temperature returns to normal without fever reducing medication.
- If a student has vomited or had diarrhea, the student must stay home until 24 hours after the last episode.
- If a student has had any rash that may be disease-related or the cause is unknown, check with your family physician before sending the student to school.
- If a student is ill, please call the school daily to report the illness.
If you are concerned about other diseases, please go to the document below:

Flu Season
Flu season is approaching. Please consider having your students vaccinated for the upcoming influenza season.
The recommended timing of flu vaccination has not changed. September and October are the best times for most people/ children to get vaccinated. The Center for Disease Control advises that the flu vaccine can be administered to anyone older than 6 months. Please consult your Medical Doctor with any questions.
