Eric's TOHS Weekly Update

For the week of: December 8-14

From Eric's Desk:

Good morning All,

A mixed bag of information this week:

First and foremost, I want to thank everyone who had a hand in a successful Future Lancer Night. I've been getting positive feedback through formal and informal channels. The one piece of consistent info that I have received is, not surprisingly, concern over the state of our facilities (see facility committee below).

I also want to recognize five teachers who have recently won grants:

  1. Heather Farrell won a $700 field trip grant from Target.
  2. Lisa Ravitch won a Cash 4 Conejo grant from the CSF. It'll be used for a field trip.
  3. Ashley Cooper won a Cash 4 Conejo grant from the CSF. It'll be used to support the NGSS mentor program.
  4. Melissa Wood-Glusac won a Cash 4 Conejo grant from the CSF. It'll be used to purchase a set of Writer's Practice Books.
  5. Rhonda Frohn won a Cash 4 Conejo grant from the CSF. It'll be used to purchase a set of AP Prep Books.

Congrats to All!

Chromebook Decision

Our Leadership Team unanimously voted to transform our 1:1 Chromebook Take-Home Policy into a 1:1 Chromebook in the classroom policy beginning next fall. There is a lot of work to do between now and then - stay tuned. By the way, Leadership minutes will be out on Monday afternoon.

Holiday Party

Our staff holiday party is right around the corner. Please pencil the date into your calendar: Wednesday, December 18 at Pitfire Pizza at 5:30. More info will be sent soon from the Culture Crew. Stay tuned.

Winter Rally on Friday

Be advised that our Winter Rally is this Friday. We'll be on a Rally Schedule.

This week is also an ASB spirit week with dress-up days! Have some fun and dress will love you for it.

Monday: Athletic Jersey Day

Tuesday: Ugly Holiday Sweater Day

Wednesday: Snow Gear Day

Thursday: Dress 10 years in the past or ten years in the future

Congrats TOXC

In the event you haven't heard, our TOXC team had an amazing post-season this year. Following a outstanding performances at the CIF and the State meets, Michael "Buckets" Mireles traveled to Portland to participate in the Nike National competition where he finished 25th. Way to go!

EThOS Visiting Team

As some are aware, EThOS is currently being considered for a "Distinguished Academy" award. We will have a visiting team on campus on Monday in order to examine EThOS in action. Good luck EThOS team!

Facility Committee

I met with M & O staff last week and was informed that TOHS has $3.64 million remaining in our Measure I coffers (although that money is not available all at once). The Facility Committee will help manage our priority list. Here is our facility committee - I sent an invite out this morning for our first meeting. We will be meeting at 3pm on Wednesday, December 11 in the Library Conference Room.

Homework and Practices Over Holidays

A reminder - Board Policy prohibits the assigning of homework over school holidays. That includes telling students that if they don't finish work during class that they have to finish it during the holiday. Because explicit Board Policy exists on this topic, there is no way that we would get any kind of support from above. Additionally, if you are holding practice on a holiday, it must be optional and students must be told so. if you have questions or concerns onthis, come see me for more information.

The Environmental club is finally ready to resume the Recycling program on campus starting tomorrow. 🙂

The NEW recycle day will be FRIDAYS!

On Friday (tomorrow), please place your paper and cans/bottles bin outside your room at the BEGINNING of 5th period.

We appreciate your help and support with the recycle program. We know that custodial has been emptying the cans and they have been asked to stop and leave the recycle for our club to remove on Fridays.

Please remind students where your recycle bins are in your classroom and not to through food or trash into them.

If for some reason you need a new bin please send me your room number and which bin you need replaced.

Attached is a reminder on what to recycle and what not to recycle.

Thank you and Happy Recycling!
