Attention 5th Grade Families
5th Grade Families: AVID Applications are Open
Middle school AVID Elective applications are now open. AVID is a national program with a goal of closing the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. AVID Elective classes include tutor-facilitated study groups, motivational activities, and academic success skills. Additionally, AVID students engage in activities centered around exploring college and career opportunities and their own agency. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
Ms. Howery, our school counselor, is teaching an introductory lesson about AVID in all fifth-grade classes so your students can begin thinking about whether this program would be a good fit for them. If your student is interested, complete the application HERE! This year’s application deadline is Wednesday, March 13th.

Oak Hills will once again be hosting a Science Fair! Students in grades 3 - 5 are invited to participate. The Science Fair will occur on Thursday, April 11, 2024 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, in conjunction with STEM Night. There are three types of science projects that can be presented on STEM Night.

Oak Hills Safety Committee Update
Arrival and dismissal times are busy on campus. It is essential that we keep safety in mind as we welcome students to school and return students home to families each day.
Supervision is provided in each of our Morning Mix locations within the building. Outside supervision is limited to our crossing guards. For this reason, our school playground and outdoor play spaces are not open before school. Students should head directly to their Morning Mix location when they arrive at school between 7:45-8:00am.
As a reminder, parking is not permitted along the triangle island area on NW 153rd Ave. and NW Forest Ave. As an alternative, The Oak Hills Church would welcome family parking.
Thank you for helping keep our school community safe during arrival and dismissal times!

Helpful Website Buttons--Report Absences and Going Home Plan Changes
Absences and dismissal changes can be reported to us via the Oak Hills website. There are buttons where you can click and report an absence or changes to how your child will be going home.
For dismissal, please do your best to report the changes before 1:00pm since this is when we will be delivering the information to our teachers and students. If it is after 1pm, please call the main office to report the change and not the website button.
Thank you in advance for utilizing this communication tool. It will free up our phone lines for families, staff, and community members who urgently need to get in touch with the office.
