Keeping Scott teachers in the KNOW!
May 17, 2016
Please read the district & campus news below. As always, let me know if you have any questions or would like to meet.
Literacy Materials
- Please return all books to the Guided Reading Library as soon as possible. I will notify you this week if you are missing any books. Thank you!
- If you are leaving Scott or changing grade levels, please turn in your DRA kit to me before the year ends. If you are moving classrooms, you can take your kit with you.
Writing Samples for Yellow Folders
Score Narrative and Expository student writing samples and file in yellow folders (5th grade will send the yellow folders home).
Kindergarten and 1st grade will use Early Beginners or Advanced Beginners rubrics, depending on the level of each student.
- 2nd-4th grade will use the FISD Expository Writing Rubric or FISD Literary Writing Rubric to score writing samples
Math
TxAIR:
Teachers and administrators can now learn more about the Texas Achievement Items Repository (TxAIR) system with the TxAIR video tutorials. This system allows teachers to access the TEKS-aligned assessments for math and science (grades 3-8). You can set up an account (it's free) and start accessing some tutoring materials and assessment bank items! Send me an email today with your favorite quote to have your name entered in a drawing for a Sonic drink.
New Book:
"Sitting and watching a teacher explain procedures and steps is like learning how to play a sport by watching a video. Mathematics learning is an active process in which students build their own mathematical knowledge from personal experiences, coupled with feedback from peers, teachers, other adults, and themselves (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, 2014)".
We are receiving this great new resource! Engage in the Mathematical Practices: Strategies to Build Numeracy and Literacy with K-5 Learners by Solution Tree, 2016.
