Recipes Needed!!
Dear Families,
Our school is creating a custom cookbook featuring favorite recipes from our families. This goes hand in hand with our One Book/One School reading of Pie, by Sarah Weeks. These cookbooks will be professionally published and are sure to be a treasured keepsake. Money raised will be used to help rescued animals through the United Pet Fund, right here in Blue Ash.
Please submit 2-5 of your favorite recipes so you can be represented in our cookbook. Many recipes from all members will ensure that our cookbook is a success. We are using Morris Press Cookbook’s website to easily submit recipes online. If you do not have Internet access, our committee can enter them for you. Submit hard copies of your recipes to Allison Campbell via “kidmail.”
We anticipate a great demand for our cookbooks, and we want to be certain to order enough. To reserve your copies, email Amy Johnson at johnsona@sycamoreschools.org with the number of cookbooks you will be purchasing. Cookbooks will be available for $13.50. With each paper copy, you will also get an ebook. Ebooks are not available alone.
Please submit your recipes online by April 11, 2018 so we can have the books printed and delivered before school ends in May. Thank you!
Yours in Reading and Recipes,
The Maple Dale Cookbook Committee

LobbyGuard
Beginning April 9, we will begin using LobbyGuard in our building. The visitor management system runs a background check on each individual that enters the building, looking for individuals who are legally banned from visiting schools (ie. sex offenders, restraining orders) This pilot program will be used regularly for the remainder of the school year and will be fully implemented for the 2018-19 school year.
All visitors will be asked for a state-issued license or identification. If you do not have a license or state ID, you will not be permitted to enter the building unless you are there to attend a meeting/supervised function.
All visitors will be asked to sign in and out using the program. You will be required to wear the photo badge that is printed at the time of check-in during the entirety of your visit.
We understand that there certain circumstances where our families may not have proper identification. Our administrators will work through those unique situations on a case by case basis.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the district.

Testing
Dear Sycamore Families,
As we move through the 2017-2018 school year, our students will once again be presented with the opportunity to demonstrate their progress as part of the schedule for federally and state-mandated standardized testing.
The state’s annual assessments provide a snapshot of your child’s progress in their understanding and application of curriculum standards. From a district perspective, these results allow us to benchmark ourselves against similar districts and to identify trends in data that will guide our work with teachers and students. Our teachers work diligently to fully prepare your child to be successful on these assessments and in other aspects of their growth and development.
The testing schedule is as follows:
3rd Grade English Language Arts, Part 1, is on Monday, April 9 and Part 2 is on Tuesday, April 10.
3rd Grade Math, Part 1, is on Tuesday, April 17 and Part 2 is on Wednesday, April 18.
Fourth Grade English Language Arts, Part 1, is on Wednesday, April 11 and Part 2 is on Thursday, April 12.
Fourth Grade Math, Part 1, is on Thursday, April 19 and Part 2 is on Friday, April 20.
Students have 90 minutes for each English Language Arts test and 75 minutes for each Math test.
Please help your child feel their best with a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast before testing.
We are so appreciative of the support you provide your children in our partnership together toward academic excellence. If you have any questions regarding testing, please contact your building administrator.
Sincerely,
Karen. B. Naber
Assistant Superintendent

Maple Dale Book Swap- May 14 & 15, 2018
Maple Dale Elementary students are invited to participate in a Book Swap on May 14 and 15, 2018. Bring in your gently used books and trade them in for “new to you” books to read! Here’s how the Book Swap will work:
From April 30, 2018 to May 11, 2018 students may bring in any ‘gently used’ books to their classroom for donation. We will be collecting (Kindergarten through 4th grade appropriate) books brought in by each student.
May 14th/15th students will be invited to visit the Book Swap tables and select a book(s) of their choice. The number of books students will be allowed to select will be based on the number of books that are donated in total. The more books we get, the more books students will be allowed to take home! However, if a student is unable to donate a book they will still be able to choose a book(s) on the day of the Book Swap.
Please consider volunteering for the Book Swap-

Summer Bridge Program Info Kit
Parents,
Each summer, several parents ask me about what to use when working with their child to sharpen skills over the summer months.
There are online tools available to our Maple Dale students such as Raz Kids and Compass Learning throughout the summer.
Another more "portable" option is a workbook. One I recommend is Summer Bridge. I know we get one each summer and my daughter Caroline has a "school" time each day. She is motivated to finish her bridge book before school begins and we reward her efforts with a special outing of her choice at the end of the summer.
The order form below offers the books to you at a reduced cost. The online ordering form will allow you to order online and have the book shipped directly to your home. Maple Dale is not making a profit on these materials, simply offering them to you as an affordable option.
Summer will be here before we know it!
Regards,
Ann Marie Reinke
Parents will visit our dedicated ordering website for this option and order online ( www.SummerBridgeDirect.com ). They will need to use the school code: “MAPLE”
We then ship the books directly to their homes.
Most orders ship within 24 hours and they will receive a confirmation email from us with post office tracking #’s.
