Happy Easter!
Our Motto: Teaching the Mind...Nourishing the Soul
Theme for the Year - TRUTH
At St. Joseph Catholic School, we are striving to become missionary disciples by revealing the Truth of Christ to others through our actions.
Our Mission and Vision Statements
Mission:
St. Joseph Catholic School provides students with a safe and prayerful learning environment, enveloped by an intimate community of active and faithful families.
Vision:
Catholic schools in the Diocese of Fort Worth are committed to opening the doors so that our students can reach further than the walls that would otherwise enclose them and therefore are able to recognize and cherish the eternal and transcendental goods of Truth, Beauty, and Goodness.
From the Principal
Happy Easter!
Our last week of school is upon us! Just take a look at the past two weeks' newsletters, and you can see we have had a jam-packed May! If it could only slow down for a little bit, so we may fully absorb the smiles on all the students' faces.
I hope this year's theme of TRUTH has helped to focus everyone on the importance of living an authentic life for God, in complete honesty. Yes, we are human and make mistakes, but by keeping our sights on TRUTH, on Jesus Christ, we are able to get back up and try again.
I pray this last week of school is one that you and your family will enjoy. I look forward to being a part of the Promotion Mass for the Class of 2019 this coming Wednesday. The evening is always filled with mixed emotions. There is overwhelming pride for the young men and women our Knights have become, but also sadness for having to let them go.
Embrace these last few days, as you prepare for the summer months ahead. Know that all the Faculty and Staff of St. Joseph Catholic School are working to make these last days of the 2018-2019 school year memorable for you.
In Christ's service,
Diane Price, M.Ed.L.
Principal
Truth Bible Verse for May
saintly quote to ponder
People hate the truth for the sake of whatever it is that they love more than the truth. They love truth when it shines warmly on them, and hate it when it rebukes them. - St. Augustine

Safe Environment Training
You must first create a profile in VIRTUS for the Safe Environment Diocesan Program.
Per the Diocese, all school volunteers if they are current on Safe Environment, will have until 7/31/19 to renew through VIRTUS if you do not expire before that date. You need to go on the VIRTUS website and make a profile. You can do this without signing up for a class. Profiles are needed in the new system so we know you have previous training, as the old database is no longer open for viewing.

Dealing with Sibling Rivalry
Nurture each of your children’s unique strengths and gifts.
When children are noticed and appreciated for their unique interests and aptitudes, they are less likely to perceive that their parents have “favorite” children. Of course, favoritism is the kiss of death when it comes to sibling relationships.
Provide strong and loving leadership.
Love and Logic is all about helping parents become… and remain… loving and strong authority figures. Much of this is achieved by providing consistent and enforceable limits. When kids feel a lack of such leadership, they experience anxiety and subconsciously wonder, “Well… if our parents aren’t running this home, I better.” Chaos among siblings ensues as they compete for this leadership position.
Stay out of the middle, while guiding them toward solutions.
Most of us struggle with the temptation to rescue our kids from each other by placing ourselves in the middle of their conflicts. When we succumb to doing so, we send an unhealthy message: “If you want some attention, all you have to do is start a fight with your brother or sister. Then I’ll swoop in to the rescue.”
In my audio, Sibling Rivalry, I describe how parents avoid making this mistake while guiding their children toward learning how to resolve their own conflicts.
Of course, we do rescue when life and limb are in obvious danger.
Use the “Energy Drain” technique to keep it their problem rather than yours.
We’ve received story after story of how parents have informed their children that bickering and arguing drains their parental energy. Of course, when this happens, kids are expected to replace this energy by completing extra chores, staying home from an activity so that their parents can rest instead of drive, etc.
While we can’t ensure that our kids always love and appreciate each other, we can create a home where it’s always in their best interest to work hard at doing so.

Our 5th Grade received a World War I lesson given by history buff, Richard Grasso, the father of our very own Mrs. Regan. Thank you, Mr. Grasso! We appreciate all you do for our school!
special recognition
Our 6th grade volleyball team was nominated for the VSPY Best Partner School Team. This team was the most spirited, always enthusiastic and displayed great sportsmanship throughout the entire season. Coach Poquiz has done a terrific job always "Playing like a Champion" regardless of the score of the game. All of his players always had fair playing time and showed great improvement in their skills. His focus was not just to win, but to teach his players the skills needed as they move on, such as three-hit volleyball. The whole team encourages each other through their ups and downs. This team may not have won the award, but they are winners in our hearts!
