Updates for the Week

Hello Wilkesboro families! We would like to wish a happy Mother’s Day to all of the special women who nurture, help, love, and inspire our students. We hope you’ve had a great day.

Our 2021 yearbooks are here, and teachers distributed those last week. If you paid for a yearbook for your child and it wasn’t delivered, please contact Mrs. St. John immediately by Dojo message or phone. We have a small number of yearbooks for sale, and we will begin selling those after school on Monday. To buy a yearbook, you can bring $25 in cash to the front office on Monday afternoon and Ms. Elaine will help you while supplies last. Thank you to Mrs. St. John for creating such a colorful, picture packed yearbook for our school.

This week, we are excited to welcome Mrs. Dollyhite’s remote classes to school for the first time. Parents, please make sure to communicate with us your plans for how your child should come home on Monday. If you need a car tag, please let us know.

This week, we begin end of grade testing with third grade on Thursday and fourth grade on Friday. Parents, please make sure your child is well-rested and arrives at school on time. Students have worked hard this year, and we anticipate good results. Please be advised that on testing days we sometimes have to adjust the lunch, encore, and recess schedule.

Last week, the NC Department of Health and Human Services updated the mask guidance for schools. Basically, all people on school grounds are required to wear masks while inside the building and while on school transportation. Masks are not required outside as long as people are socially distanced. We made that change during recess and playgrounds last week with students. We ask that students continue to wear masks while exiting cars and buses to enter the buildings and wear masks while walking to cars and buses in the afternoon. Thanks for your understanding as we work to keep everyone safe.

Please check your child’s folder tomorrow for details about our end of year awards programs. You can learn more about what’s happening in your child’s classroom on our weekly #WE Rise page here: https://www.smore.com/af1y4

It’s a busy time, but we are glad for another school week together. We appreciate all of your support and encouragement from home. Thank you and have a great evening!

About Attendance

Parents, please note that since we have moved to Plan A, students who are participating in Plan A will be marked PRESENT or ABSENT. If your child is not in school, you will need to send in absence notes as usual and it will be coded as excused or unexcused. If your child is officially quarantined or excluded by the health department and/or the school nurse, your teacher will offer remote learning. If your child participates and submits work each day, the student will be marked PRESENT OFF SITE (1R). If not, the quarantine absences would be excused. If your child needs to be out, we will work with you to make sure your child doesn't get behind.

For students who continue with remote learning note that in order for us to count your child in attendance off site, we must on a daily basis verify that the student is engaged (completing and submitting assignments), on pace (participating in the virtual classroom), or receiving academic/emotional support (directly from the teacher). If this isn't happening, your child will be counted absent. Please make sure that your child is submitting work and that you are communicating with the teacher daily. Thanks in advance for your help!
