240 Linwood Avenue

Bridgeport, CT

Please RSVP by completing the form online: RSVP to PAC Meeting

Mr. Volpe, Music Teacher

This was a very exciting month in the music room. Classes at the Linwood Campus

began to learn about the notes on the treble staff. We have worked on tasks where we

learn how to play songs on the xylophone by reading music as well as using the note

names to spell words. Some of the older classes have had the opportunity to create

music on the xylophone and use their knowledge of the notes names to write their

creations down on the staff. At the Beechwood campus, students have been learning

about what it takes to participate in circle games. A couple of the songs we have been

learning have games that can be played in a circle and it has been a challenge for some

of the classes to get and stay in a circle while singing and walking around it. It has

definitely been an exciting time getting back into the music room this year, we have

many more interesting tasks ahead of us. Thank you for your continued support of the

arts at this school! Keep them singing!

P.S. If you want to keep your scholar active in their music learning at home, have them

go on “Chrome Music Lab.” This website is a place where anyone can explore, create

and learn about music. Just search “Chrome Music Lab” in Google or another search

engine to find it and let your scholar explore and create. Let them show you what they

created!

Miss Curri, Media Specialist

Kindergarten, First, and Second grades have been getting used to being back in the library over the last few weeks as we practice checking out books, asking questions and listening for answers during read-alouds, and reviewing parts of a book. In December, Kindergarten and first grade scholars will return to a class project we began before the library was open, practicing the role of authors and illustrators to create a class alphabet book.

Second and third grades will listen to, compare, and contrast award-winning picture book versions of fairy tales.

Fourth, fifth, and sixth grades have been learning how to be good digital citizens - taking care of themselves by learning to recognize healthy media choices, and taking care of others by learning strategies for dealing with cyberbullying. We will practice media literacy by identifying parts of an online news article and the difference between news and advertisements. Seventh and eighth grades have been practicing how to summarize, quote, paraphrase, and cite their sources to help avoid plagiarism.

As we wrap up these units, fourth through eighth grades will celebrate Computer Science Education Week with coding activities.

Mrs. Smart, Art Teacher

Art at Classical Studies Magnet Academy is off to an amazing start. September was the month of “ I am”. Students created name tags, plates and bubble monikers that showcased their individuality. October was an introduction to the color wheel. Students learned how warm and cool colors relate. November was the month for black and white projects. Students used stencils and rulers to create projects focused on patterns and designs.

Dr. DeAngelis, PE Teacher at Linwood

Our CSMA scholars have been working diligently in the Physical Education classroom. We have had the chance to work on a number of activities and lifelong skills. For example, students have learned how to check their heart rate, make independent activity choices, and even refine their soccer skills. Additionally, our scholars in grades 4-8 were all tested on the Connecticut State Fitness Test, with many achieving passing scores! Pease make sure to keep an eye on PowerSchool to monitor your scholar's performance in Physical Education!
