SCHROEDER SNAPSHOTS
May 26-June 1
Greetings Schroeder Raider Families!
Thank you for taking the time to read our Schroeder Snapshots newsletter, where you’ll find the latest information about your student’s experience at Schroeder Middle School.
As we wrap up the 2022-2023 school year, I would like to share a few items with our parents and guardians. In an effort to invest our students in the mission, vision, and values established at Schroeder Middle School, we asked our current 7th grade students to design and adopt a “class motto” for their 8th grade year.
Using only criteria that it should be a reflection of the recently adopted Schroeder mission, vision and value statements, our 7th grade students brainstormed a variety of meaningful, fun, and clever mottos in their Raider Time classes. Nearly every Raider Time group proposed a motto, and the entire 7th grade class voted on the ones they favored the most.
In the end, one motto rose to the top and was presented to the class on May 11. Parents and guardians, it is my pleasure to announce our motto for the 2023-2024 school year:
Think Greater. Think Schroeder.
In addition to the work on our school mission, vision and values, we will be submitting for High Reliability Schools Level 2 certification at the end of May. Over the course of the school year, our staff has completed a tremendous amount of professional development and data collection for this certification process. Part of this work included analysis of our student and parent surveys on school safety and effective teaching as it pertains to Schroeder Middle School. Hopefully, when we return in the fall, we can announce that we are a HRS Level 2 certified school. We’ll keep you posted!
Finally, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the teachers that will leaving us at the end of this year. I want to thank Jolene Kvamme (8th special ed), Kyle Rosseau (6th special ed), Kristi Sandbeck (Instructional Design Coach), and Alexis Kubal (Phy Ed) for their service to Schroeder this school year and wish them good luck in their future endeavors.
Thank you to Becky Bryan for her many years of service as our family and consumer science (FACS) teacher!
Congratulations to Deb Boucher (7th math) and Kristi Otto (8th science) on their retirement from the Grand Forks Public School district. Thank you for your many years of service to our school - we wish you well in the future!
The past couple of weeks have been full of sunshine and warm temps – a sure sign that summer is right around the corner! I hope that all of our families are able to enjoy a summer break of beautiful weather, good times, and happiness. See you next fall!
All the best,
David Nowatzki

Parents Lead
Listening is a powerful parenting tool.
You may not always know what to say but by listening carefully, with interest, and with empathy, you send the message that you care, are emotionally available, understand and accept. Kids sometimes feel that their parents “don’t understand” or “don’t listen” which can lead to a feeling of disconnection from parents.
Good listening involves reflecting back or paraphrasing what your child has said so they know that you fully heard. Responses like, “It sounds like you are pretty angry at your coach” or “From what you are saying, it sounds like you feel she isn’t being a very good friend to you. Is that right?”
