School Re-opens Friday, February 3rd
From The Principal

The sun is (finally) shining, and hopefully everyone has been spared the level of disruption that was anticipated last night.
As you may be aware by now, the Secretary for Education has now lifted the Auckland school closure that was in place for the rest of this week.
As a result, I'm pleased to confirm that MENPS classes will open on Friday, 3rd February.
Welcome Day Cancelled Tomorrow
Unfortunately, our 'Welcome Day' will not proceed tomorrow (Thursday).
This is due to the fact that there is still clean-up and maintenance required on site, and our teachers require dedicated preparation time in class to make up for time lost this week. Some of our team members and families also have damage at home they have been dealing with, so this will allow everyone a little breathing room after recent events to prepare for school starting, as I'm sure everyone will understand.
Our priority in the circumstances is to get the children back to learning in class at this stage without delay. We will be scheduling Parent Interviews for later this term, and we plan to offer some informal after school 'drop-in' dates/times for parents who would like to visit the class and meet the teacher over the next couple of weeks.
Room 29 Class Relocation
With significant water inundation sustained overnight, Room 29 students will be relocated to a nearby classroom until further notice. This will be organised tomorrow and further decisions made once the extent of the damage has been assessed. No other current classrooms are affected. The Rm 29 children will be directed to the new classroom on Friday.
Other Important Information:
- The School Office will be open tomorrow (Thursday), and the PTA have kindly arranged to open the Secondhand Uniform sales on site for those who may need them (see below)
- SKiDs after-school care staff are planning to resume programmes, and will email details to parents shortly
- Our Term 1 welcome whakatau for new staff and families will be rescheduled as we expect many will have other matters to catch up with this week. Information on the rescheduled date and time will be sent via email when this is confirmed
- Any families who have had to temporarily relocate or who are unable to make it to school on Friday due to the challenges of this week, please let us know as usual via our absence form
I hope this news will come as something of a 'silver lining' after the events of this week, and allow for a positive and orderly start to the school year.
I know how excited the staff are to be back on site with the children, get the school year underway and get on with doing what we do best - I'm sure the children will be just as excited to return on Friday!

Roles changes in 2023
- Chairperson - Rosemary Li Zhongguo has responded with interest regarding our current search for a new chair person. Rosemary is currently a liaison for the Chinese community of the school and was the coordinator for the popular Dumplings & Noodles stall at the fair. With Pam Clifford they are proposing to co-chair the PTA.
- Second hand uniform shop - Jane Cunningham has offered to take over the shop, with Sally & Emma leaving these roles. Jane has a long history with the PTA - most recently she has been the Secretary for the past year and has been the Second Hand Stall coordinator for the Fair for many years including this year.
- The Secretary role remains unfilled
- A new Communications role was added to the list of Officers roles at the last meeting, Sarah Eason has put her hand up for this role. Sarah has previously run the Magic Spells campaign and the Bottle stall at the Fair.
- For the new co-Treasury role Paula Tran has expressed interest and received handover information from Diem our exiting Treasurer.
- A new Sponsorship role has been created for Aimee Chikunda so we retain the strong business relationships formed by her this year. Aimee is our exiting chairperson and used her business liaison skills to great effect in the lead up to the Fair and for the parent quiz.
- The Yummy Apples sports equipment role remains unfilled but we are hoping a teacher might take this on again.
All other volunteers have confirmed they will continue to help in their current roles next year. @We are also working on confirming class coordinators for 2023 - thank you to those continuing into this year.
All of the new and existing roles will be voted on at the upcoming PTA meeting on February 7th - as with all PTA meetings the invitation to this meeting is open to all caregivers/parents & teachers.
